Just finished watching William Friedkin's 'Sorcerer' that he did a few years after 'The Exorcist'. Great soundtrack by the German synth group Tangerine Dream. I especially liked the 'Grind' theme towards the end of this Youtube clip:

As an aside, it's always interesting reading people's comments on Youtube. Of course more than a few people love Tangerine Dream, and concerning the excellent movie, one person said that it was a real man's movie with no room for whimps!

PS....Can't get the Youtube embed code to work on this page?????

Rush Clockwork Angels
Any good? Always worried when Rush release a new album... They're touring the UK next year and the tickets are not cheap. Love to see them but if they're touring on a weak album I may save my time and money. Last twice I saw them were the "Moving Pictures 30th Anniv" tour and before that was "Rush 30."

Incidentally "Prymus" supported Rush in their "Hold Your Fire" tour back in the late 80's. Worst band I ever saw (Prymus that is).

Trev,I saw them on the Counterparts, Test for Echo, and Vapor Trails tours. All were excellent shows, and they played for a good long time(over 4 hours at the Vapor Trails show) While they did a few songs from each of those albums, the vast majority of the show was spent on what most would consider the "classics". Every show was outstanding. The Vapor Trails show was outside and the sound was still amazing. For me watching Neal do his thing at the kit is worth the price of admission. I would say that if you really like the group, go. Kind of like seeing The Who just because its The Who. They are here in Nov. and I can't get there:angry:
Now for the new album. As much as I hate to say it I really don't think there has been much in the way of progression or innovation in the bands music for a long time. But I still love it. While I rarely buy a full CD from any band, even those I really like, I will always buy the new Rush CD. Maybe I'm stupid in that regard, maybe I should just surf the tracks on iTunes and pick and choose. But I won't, I'll always support the band with my purchase of their newest. Hope it helps you decide.

By the way, I love "Primus", if thats the band you mean. Les Claypool is a master on the bass guitar, better than Flea of RHCP. He actually auditioned for Metallica after Cliff died, but they thought he was a little too strange for them. Southbound Pachyderm and Damn Blue Collar Tweakers are fantastic songs, imo. They are very different though. Do you like Frank Zappa? Primus has played at small clubs in Phoenix, good shows.

I agree with you all the way Trev in that I just cant' get in to Primus. They are the most overrated 'cult' band around these days, and I just don't get what people see in them. They're coming here to Orlando in November and brother wants to see them, but I'm definitely going to pass. IMHO they're sort of a poor man's King Crimson (80's style, that is), but no where near as interesting. Les Claypool is an abominable singer.

Nexus6, I hope you understand that your brother is a wise man, seeing into the deep with a clarity that only those that serve Primus with un-ending devotion can have.:p

Just kidd'n' brother. Yeah Primus is not for everyone. I do like them a lot though. I will say, if you ever want to see the electric bass guitar played like you've never seen before, then you must see them. Les has also lent a helping hand to a ton of bands just getting going, that are now very successful. I admire his commitment to that. And yes, his voice is not what you would consider classic alt rock or... in any way. But, his music does not fit easily into any category, thus I think his voice is perfectly suited to the music they play. The lyrics can be biting, and fanciful, and real, all in the same song. Love'em, hate'em, they are different. Do you not like the South Park theme?

Uh, um, actually P, I must be one of the few people in the Western World who has never sat through an entire episode of South Park. ;)

Earth, Wind and Fire? I loved 'Fantasy'. A few years ago a jazz keyboardist did a great version of that song that somehow managed to improve on the original. I need to add that one back in to my piano repertoire.

As far as Primus is concerned, to be fair, I suspect they are one of those bands that might be more fun live than they are on record.

Earth Wind and Fire, All N' All

Humble Pie, Hot N' Nasty
Can't beat 'the Pie'! Check youtube for them performing "Black Coffee" on The Old Grey Whistle Test, absolutely electric. And if we're talking amazing bass, I'll go with Felix Pappilardi of Mountain. He played it like a lead guitar, long before it was accepted. For that matter, I'll throw in Lemmy Kilminster from Motorhead.
