Good list. I agree with Troll Hunter. I would add:

  • Cloverfield
  • Stalker
  • Battle: LA
  • The Lion in Winter
  • Passion of the Christ
  • Shutter Island

Seriously, you know people that "don't get" Once Upon a Time in the West? It's probably Leone's best film and one of the greatest Westerns ever made (8.7/10 IMDb, 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.)

My favorite unappreciated films would be certain ones by David Lynch (Dune, INLAND EMPIRE) and most anything by John Waters (Polyester, Pecker, etc.)

How to murder your wife and the houseboat...can anyone say "Italian women"?
GI Joe: Rise of the cobra. Meaningless fluff but perfect meaningless fluff.

The Chumscrabber. Apparently, it has low ratings but I really think it's genius

The one that comes to mind is The Thin Red Line. Nobody likes it but I think it is one of the best movies ever made.

The Lion in Winter (either version) is awesome. I have never sat down to watch it with someone and not see that person impressed.

Now Drop Dead Fred made me bawl my eyes out at the ending.

I third Lion in Winter. I have only seen the original with Peter O'Toole and Catherine Hepurn, but I have not reason to think Patrick Stewart and Glenn Close would not do it justice in the remake.

My entry: Where Eagles Dare. Best bad movie around.

Lion in Winter, Amadeus, Thin Red Line.. you guys have odd notions of what nobody else likes. Critical acclaim and Oscars doesn't seem to fit.

You want to be talking about stuff like Orgazmo, SS Doomtrooper and Young Einstein.

I suppose that for most people it is too long and not enough percentage fighting for a war movie.

I remember watching it and at the end my reaction was "Wow, did I really see that". Of the WW2 war genre, I regard it as a masterpiece. The only other that I think that rivals it is the very different "Cross Of Iron".

Some of the Chinese historical epics, though most likely not well known in the West, are excellent like "Red Cliffs" and "A Battle Of Wits". Check out the Russian & multinational film "Mongol" (2007) as well, another magnificent film.
