The SMC names in VotG are a combo of actual officers from the units that fought there and of the play testers that labored for many hours during its development.
We are playing a Greek-Italian scenario. I tried to find any Allied Minor leaders with Greek names, but only found a 6+1 named Papagos.

That made me sad. How can my Greek men hold off Mussolini's hordes with leaders like Boe and Isaacs....?

The problem with Allied Minors is that there are a lot of them, and they do not use consistent names. Boe works just fine as a Norwegian leader; as a Greek (or Pole or Yugoslav) not so good. You'd have to publish a separate set of leaders for each nationality, and even then for some countries you'd need several sets (e.g. USSR, USA, Yugoslavia) to account for all the nationalities within a state.

A problem with World Wars is that too many countries are involved, most of the time. Even if short like Denmark and Luxembourg. They did not hold out as long as the Dutch.

Just to note: I would not want Boe serving as a leader in any game using the Infantry Fire Table. He would greatly undermine morale.

Any way to find out more? There's a German 9-2 in VOTG with my family name and I neither helped with the module nor merit a 9-2, so can I assume someone with family name fought there? It's not a common name.

Mick Uhl was a playtester for the SL and ASL modules at TAHGC. The question of if you two are related, I'll leave it to you to investigate… :)

Well there kind of is one person with this.

My cousin Mikko Lukkari was an important playtester for Hakkaa Päälle. It was decided he should have personal leader but as the 8-0 Sgt Lukkari was mine he got the 10-0 named Mikko instead.

So there is a first name and surname for him, but the surname is not 'his' personal leader but mine.

8-0 Sgt Ivan* (Ivan Lindstrom - memory hazy but I think so)
Correct.
He was a member of FFE ASL Club in Fredericksburg, VA. Sadly, Ivan took his own life about 10 years ago.

To be honest, I'd say it would be fine if the standard SMC counters didn't have names. Then HASLs could have "historical" SMC names.

But, overall, I don't much look at the names. They're written too small for my eyes.
