American Assault Boats in the CGs...2MP or 4MP?
My guess would be 2 MP - since it's not a German, and the rules do not mention anything about them.

On the other hand the SSR in scenario SF2 says they do have a motor:
2. Use German Assault Boat counters for motorized American boats.

So that might be the intention in the CG as well....

@ASLSARGE - intentions here regarding the assault boats?

@ASLSARGE

Civilian Intelligence on the Fortification Purchase Table:

It says it is available starting on/after February 15th...which is the Initial Scenario date for CG V.

So can the Americans purchase this even though they have no units onboard at the beginning of the first Rally Phase?

That is how we played it. Felt it nicely represented how very willing the Filipinos were to point out Japanese positions to the American troops on a daily basis. Klas may offer better insight from an "official" POV.

Ok...so since all Japanese units set up ≥ 5 hexes from all map edge hexes...and all American units setup off-board...then it would stand to reason that the Americans can only get information on hexes in the Japanese front lines?

SF:M rewrites the Cellar rules from the Red Barricades version, and from several readings of the rules, I am getting this:

  • Cellars connect to adjacent Trenches (SF6)
  • but there is no LOS between a Cellar and a connecting Trench (4.43)
Is this correct? (I am asking mainly because it is unusual to have connecting locations with no LOS between them)

There was errata posted:

New Manila errata posted in Manila Errata folder:
SF4.43: first sentence, at the end add “and to/from units beneath a “connecting” Trench (SSR SF6) and as per B8.2”.

Thanks! Seems more usual.

So a unit moving to a Trench/Open Ground hex, then entering the Trench, would be out of LOS from an ajacent Cellar until it does enter the Trench, right?

Of interest to Sword & Fire players:
The Battle of Manila
Nicholas Sarantakes
Published 03 February 2025

In The Battle of Manila, Nicholas Sarantakes offers the first in-depth account of this crucial campaign from the American, Japanese, and, significantly, Filipino perspective. Fighting was building by building, with both sides forced to adapt to the new combat environment. None of the U.S. units that entered Manila had any previous training in urban warfare--yet, Sarantakes shows, they learned on the fly how to use tanks, flamethrowers, air, and artillery assets in support of infantry assaults. Their effective use of these weapons was an important factor in limiting U.S. casualties, even as it may also have contributed to a catastrophic loss of civilian lives.

Nice summary...
I have this book on order, it should arrive tomorrow. For further reading on Manila, I would also recommend 'Rampage'. Although this book is not necessarily a 'military unit history', it is more of a harrowing account of the atrocities inflicted on the filipino civilian population. A very intense and haunting read.

Manila Infiltration Question

SF 20.605 states the Japanese "may freely move (along a path of Enterable hexes devoid of American units) ..."
An Enterable hex is defined as one that a unit could enter in its MPh/APh disregarding Fortifications.

Would a Japanese unit be affected by Wire and/or Mines in any or all of the hexes along its "path of Enterable hexes"?
