I know a person who constantly rolled their dice across whatever game map we were playing on and frequently knocked over counters/pieces so the box top rule was instituted (the roll didn't count unless it was done inside an upturned box top).
That really cut back the "recovery phase" of any game, but it encouraged said person to roll with increased vigour, so occasionally one die still jumped out of it's assigned area and demolished a neat stack/pile/congregation of pieces.

I'll use a dice tower any time possible, a glass or box top if no tower is available.

I have seen dice go into a drink on occasion...🍾🍾 🤪

I had one dice glass that I used exclusively for many years. A group of us were playing the big CG from Blood Reef Tarawa and I went to pick up my dice glass to move it...the dice glass slipped from my fingers as I was picking it up, and from a height of about 1.5 inches, it dropped back onto the plexiglass covering the maps.

The glass did not break...it disintegrated into the smallest pieces of glass, more like glass dust, that coated much of the map and pieces. No shards or chunks of glass as you would expect, just glittering glass dust everywhere. It took quite some time to clean up.

A little over a year ago, I purchased one of the custom dice towers from Mario in Italy. It is a work of art and I very much enjoy using it...highly recommended.

It was semi-amusing a few times, not so much after that.
The box lid worked very well, I must say, especially for the smaller ASL dice.

More than a few Axis & Allies games were ruined by wayward dice, Dawn Patrol - wasn't too hard to remember where the planes were, D&D minis were pretty resistant to being bumped around (this was back in the days of lead alloy figures of course), Third Reich could become an unresolvable mess, Shogun & Risk were always in danger of being slid or bumped...

Fish would bring games down that he had and wanted to try out. One of these was Shogun which I had never played. He briefly explained the rules and we started playing. After a bit something happened that I had no clue about and he says " your daimyo is dead! " What? Lol I have forgotten the details of most of our gaming but that really stuck with me.

Shogun was very enjoyable and we played a fair amount of it. Circus Maximus too as we were always into DYO and we loved buying our Chariots. He was Testicles Maximus ( pronounced test-a-clease " ) and I was Cranius Minimus. Lol fun stuff!

The only time I remember using a cup for rolling was the one that came in our backgammon game. Actiondebbie was rather good at it and took second place at a tournament at Kent State. Fish and I never played it.

Axis & Allies/Shogun had that giant box you could chuck your scads of d6s into. So much fun.
Yeah, we played a bunch of those Milton Bradley games in that format in addition to proper wargames, the MB games were great if you wanted to include 3 or 4 friends that showed up.
I was pretty excited when I saw that CA made a PC game of Shogun as Total War: Shogun (the first in a long lived series), which was very close to the board game with a couple of additions.

A game doesn't have to be complicated to be fun.
True, me and Tom play Vikings from Academy Games often when taking a break from ASL, the base game plus the extender with some great optional rules, are fun, easy to learn and you can get anyone playing in less than a half hour. One of many less complex games I enjoy.

Curt has already intimated on FB thAT MMP were looking toward “ premier “ modules that would come with themed dice like battle school already do…….,

Meh.

I can't help to have a hunch that this idea is primarily intended to impose "premier" prices on modules.

As a player, I would support the opposite path: Keep Core Modules' contents limited to exactly what is needed thus keeping the price down.

The more stuff is bundled or "premiered" into them, the higher the chance becomes that the stuff is not needed or wanted (as a bundle). Rather keep stuff separately.

By now, from a player's perspective a complete switch from selling core modules to core components (i.e. individual counter sheets and boards) makes sense IMHO.

Unfortunately, Multi-Man Publishing is not like the old Avalon Hill Game Company. AHGC had the corporate structure
to be able to sell individual components. Plus, tax laws also preclude MMP from having extensive stocks to sell to customers.

For those wondering, inventory is taxed as personal property. Most states that have such taxes runs roughly 2-3%. It's not exactly the most debilitating tax compared to sales tax, state tax, etc. I understand not wanting hundreds of thousands of dollars in inventory hanging around but it shouldn't be a roadblock to conducting business in a way that's beneficial to the business and it's customers.

I too have a Pleva tower and looked down on glass rollers, but I finally lost patience with dice jumping out of the tower box and switched to glass. Now my dice never spill onto the table. Same data, but I drew different conclusions from my Yankee colleagues :- ).

Is that a precision glass?

Well, I do use my glass to "roll" my precision dice.
I still prefer the theory of a dice tower, but dice jumping out of the dice tower box or dice landing in a position in the dice tower box where that I cannot read the dice is a problem I could not solve. Perhaps a dice tower with a high walled glass box at the bottom would solve my problem and bring me back to dice towers.
