LSSAH 49 - The Quellenhof playtest v. Ernie Cameron; it went down to the very end, but the Americans were unable to hold off the Germans.
The objective for the Germans was to capture 4 of 5 buildings, with 3 located on the right side and 2 on the left side of the map.
The German managed to capture the 3 building on the right by Turn 7 of 8, and the forces necessary were pretty much out of the fight, being too far away to help.
The Battle for Observation Hill: , the Germans had captured the building at turn 5 and defended it with a (Heroic) 9-2, 8-3-8, 2x 6-5-8, 2x 3-4-8, LMG, (US) HMG, Psk, & DC.
The American reinforcements (8-1, 4x 6-6-6, 2x HMG, 2x M4(105), and 3x M4A3 Shermans) adding to the 8-0, 3x 6-6-6, MMG, HMG, and Baz pushed forward up the hill to dig out the Germans and retake the building.
The Americans surrounded the building, pounding it with 75mm and 105mm rounds, and raked it with HMG fire, but the ensconced Germans held out.
A pretty close game, which raised some rules questions; what a playtest should do.
Thanks again to Ernie Cameron for his stalwart playtesting contribution to Lone Canuck Publishing.
