We are about to start a VotG scenario, he has the Germans, and the 75L Stugs have VotG 19 Ammo shortage penalty, which refers to A19.131 and D3.71. Won't his 75L Stugs start the game with a B# counter, meaning they will Malf. on an 11 and X the MA on a 12? If not then what is the case?

Hi,

Ammo shortage is a bit different than low ammo. It means the 75L's essentially have a a circle 11. That meas a 12 breaks it as usual and an an 11 creates a low ammo counter. Thereafter an 11 or 12 permanently breaks the gun, and a 10 will malf it.

I'm Burnie's (aka heggieb) opponent and always have a hard time grokking D3.71 and its interpretation with A19.131 and A.11.

If A19.131 turns the Stugs' B12 into a circled B 11, doesn't that mean that I malf on a 12 and get a Low Ammo counter on a 10 or 11, not just on an 11? That is, isn't my Stug treated EXACTLY as if it were the IS-3 in the D3.71 example?

Is there no such thing in the game as a circled B12?

Yes, it is exactly the same as the example. I think you read it wrong. The 10 doesn't come into play until AFTER the 11 was rolled and the Low Ammo counter was placed.

Think of it like this. A circled 11 is like a normal B12 weapon UNTIL you roll that 11, then things get nasty for it from then on because it has the counter on it.

There is no such think as a circle 12 because a 12 malfs.

Right, OK. So the StuGs suffering Ammo Shortage do not start the scenario with a Low Ammo counter on them, rather they get one if/when they roll an 11.
