Here's a nice link from Turbine with "Down & Dirty" information on the game & their world of LotRO: a quick primer of the setting to get you started.

Covers a bunch of topics: The War, Areas, Minions, Time-line, etc.

They drop some useful info in there occasionally like:
"Burglars- Most of The Dead have a Fear Aura that does damage, breaking your stealth. In short, The Dead are not something you normally want to Burgle or Sneak Up on!"

I found that out with my Burg the hard way!:skull: :(

Don't know how many players use the LotRO "Lore Book" but another interesting link concerns the creatures of the game. Provides some nice shots of the creatures & information and what, if any real link they have to Tolkien's World.

Click on the "name" for the information & on the "avatar" for a better look at them. There are occasional maps with their location as well.

http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Creature_Codex

At least they include their "creative license" for the appearance of some of the more unusual "creatures.

Ex. "Bolgrukh and the merrevail were created by Turbine for The Lord of the Rings Online™: Shadows of Angmar™ , extrapolating from references in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings to unnamed creatures which served the Enemy."

You can certainly go a long way riding on the "unnamed creatures" reference!

Good map of Goblin Town to have open as you play AFTER you have fun being totally lost & disoriented  but have finally entered that "WHERE THE HECK AM I NOW!!" phase one too many times.

Screen-shot of the bottomhalf of GT.

You get "teleported" around from section to various section which is probably intentional to give that feeling of being in a vast maze. Once you figure out which spot sends you where it stays the same while you are inside.

Virtues! Ever wonder just what the point of Virtues are? (See screen-shot)

Well here's a link to a site (.pdf) that shows what each "Name" does (Charity/Compassion etc) and the bonuses you get per Virtue level plus the areas to get the step increases.

http://files1.guildlaunch.net/guild/library/16828/Virtuebyrank2.pdf

Some are geared to a specific class:

Determination = Agility = Hunter
Discipline = Might = Melee Class
Wisdom = Will = Caster Class
etc.

Since you can have up to 5 Virtues equipped you can significantly up your characters stats & abilities in the exact areas you want instead of hoping to find or buy items. Most require a lot of grinding of a certain mob to get the virtue. Good Grinding!
