Brain fart. Played last night. Is there a LOS between U7 and T8 on board 24? Ochards are in season.

Hmmm, on VASL it says no, but from the look of it: VASL is right, "(i.e., in a Hill-Orchard hex, LOS that crosses the hill depiction is affected up through level 2; LOS that does not cross the hill depiction is only affected through level 1)".

LOS is blocked while in season.

"B14.2 SEASONS: An orchard is not a LOS obstacle between same-level units. However, an orchard hex is considered a one level obstacle to any LOS to/from a higher elevation during the months of April through October, and consequently can create Blind hexes."

The rule goes on to say that if the orchards were out of season then it would only be a Hinderance.

I think the answer that Rob is looking for is B10.1 Hills. If U7 were at level -1 the LOS would be hindered. However, because of this rule LOS along the hexspine is a level 0 obstacle because of the in season orchard. LOS from U7 to U9 is hindered. If U7 were level 1 it would be blocked -- same principle as the given example.

Does that make any more sense?

Also note if U8 were brush, LOS would not be hindered along the hexspine even in the case of a continous slope.

Inherent terrain in Hill hexes

B.6, B 10.1, B 14.2=
The LOS from Level 0 U7 to Level -1 T8 is blocked by the inherent terrain orchard along the hexside U8/T7. The orchard rises from level -1 up to level 0.
