This is interesting:

[h=1]Lame of Thrones [/h]
LAST YEAR, in urgent need of a new show to devour, my wife, Stephanie, and I decided to make a go of Game of Thrones. We watched the pilot, and although we found it well made, it didn’t really pull us in. But we were desperate—we were coming off the first season of Homeland, and we needed a new TV opiate of similar sublimity—so we decided to keep watching, in the hope that we’d get swept away in George R. R. Martin’s world of faux-medieval dungeons and dragons and swordplay and incest. Ten minutes into Episode Two, we threw in the tunic.
In truth, I think some of his comments are silly at best. But having said that, I do agree that GoT is far from perfect, and far short of Peter Jackson's masterful Lord of the Rings. For me, my biggest complaint remains unchanged: all the ridiculous soft-core porn that is shoehorned into every other scene. It adds nothing to the story and just serves to make a thrilling tale tawdry. I hated what they did to Snow's red-headed savage north of the wall (I forget her name), for example. All she did was obsess over sex with Snow the entire time. Really? I guess that is the real reason for Mance's war. :rolleyes:

You knwo I can't let this pass, scott....

Ygritte is pretty well doen actually - she clearly is smarter and shrewder tehn jon, and she is taunting him about sex, not obsessing baout ti. To her - it is a game and a weakness of Jon that she exploits. if you wnat to argeu that jon is a lot dimmer in teh shwo then he is n teh novels - you have a case, but I am Ok with their decisions. They ahve amde a couple of chanegs for the sake of ratings, most notably making Stannis adn mel explicit lovers -s omehting never cofnrimed in Clash of kings - but theya re trying to attarct eyeballs. I can live with it.

Teh Battle of Blackwater Bat was sepctacular and worth the price of admission.

I don't think the compariosn with loTR si a fair one becuase LoTR si literature at tis highest level adn when all is said and done, martin is writing a potboiler and doesn't really rise above genre fiction (no matter what hsi fan boys say). For what it is though, it is better than msot and HBO si doing a good job with it. i ahve learned to swallow the sexploitation - tis there to create buzz adn as long as it does that, I get to see more seasons adapated.

By the way - have you seen the awsoem SNL riff on Thrones/ They have andy Sudekis appear as the sereis "Screenwriter" a thirteen year old nerd obsessed with boobs. Dude - it is hilarious.

GoT does have a classic score. Right up there with Star Wars AFAIAC. I knew it was going to be a hit when a week after the first episode aired, John Batchelor was using it for his daily talk show theme (about China's new aggressive foreign policy in the Pacific, of course). :D
