In truth, I think some of his comments are silly at best. But having said that, I do agree that GoT is far from perfect, and far short of Peter Jackson's masterful Lord of the Rings. For me, my biggest complaint remains unchanged: all the ridiculous soft-core porn that is shoehorned into every other scene. It adds nothing to the story and just serves to make a thrilling tale tawdry. I hated what they did to Snow's red-headed savage north of the wall (I forget her name), for example. All she did was obsess over sex with Snow the entire time. Really? I guess that is the real reason for Mance's war.LAST YEAR, in urgent need of a new show to devour, my wife, Stephanie, and I decided to make a go of Game of Thrones. We watched the pilot, and although we found it well made, it didn’t really pull us in. But we were desperate—we were coming off the first season of Homeland, and we needed a new TV opiate of similar sublimity—so we decided to keep watching, in the hope that we’d get swept away in George R. R. Martin’s world of faux-medieval dungeons and dragons and swordplay and incest. Ten minutes into Episode Two, we threw in the tunic.
