If I understand the rating system correctly, a prolific but mediocre player could out score a very good player who plays infrequently.

I much prefer the AREA/OARS style rating system. It very quickly gives an indication of relative skill level between players.

WARS take both into account, but its true that a gamer who plays very frequently will be rewarded for doing so. Having said that, you can choose to view the WARS ladder by only looking at games for a given time period. This allows you to ignore members that may have been very successful a long time ago but haven't played recently.

There is no simple solution to this problem. Bear in mind our staff has worked with, designed, or moderated half the wargaming ladders on the net. WARS was designed with those lessons in mind. There simply is no absolute method to calculate between a player who is very "good" and a player who plays very frequently. WARS attempts to strike a balance between the two. We understand that different players have different uses for and want different things from a wargaming ladder. We've attempted to build as many drop down menus into the system as possible so that you can generate the specific information that you want to see. It's not a perfect system as every single player has a different interpretation on exactly what a ladder should and should not do.

If you have specific recommendations or suggestions for improvements, post them here.

The system has two ratings, look at the sheer numbers one and you see the active(and over active) raw numbers; the "rating" one has a better system if you like the old OARS/AREA, that one has % wins heavily favored, ie a guy with a few games(still a certain number though, can't let a guy with one game/one win be at the top of ladder), but higher % wins is rated higher than a mediocre active player with many more games, but less %age wins.:smoke:

Not sure what is in your database, but . . . .

I was browsing through the games reports in the ASL ladder and found a lot of scenarios being played that sI was completely unfamiliar with.

Assuming that you have the mopdule a scenario came from in the database, could this information be printed in the game report so that we can find it if it sounds good enough to give a playing

We don't have the module information in the database. That may change at some later point, but I'm not sure.

In the meantime, if you feed any scenario name that interests you into the SoCal ASL Scenario Database you should get some joy with most scenario selections. :)

If that fails, a search of ROAR by scneario name should also help provide the source of publication.

Well November is officially over, according to whatever time zone the Warfare HQ server is based in! So no arguments this time about whether the month is over or not! ;)

Lots of ladder activity was had this month by all, with a total of 37 games played during November. USWI001 and TheSQLGuru were our most active players, with 5 games apiece during the month.

Several ladder medals were also awarded, with Distinguished Action Medals being awarded to Reepicheep and da Priest, for having a ladder score of greater than 750 and topping either a ladder by score or rating. Jeff H was awarded the Warfare HQ Commendation Medal, and USWI001 and TheSQLGuru both earned Warfare HQ Achievement Medals. Well done, guys.

Nate Stapf's stranglehold on the ladder by score continued, with Nate maintaining a healthy lead over any potential challengers. Ratings wise, Reepicheep began the month in #1 spot on the ladder, da Priest took over the #1 rating about mid way through November, and then Chris Milne climbed up to the #1 spot as the last few days of November ticked away. So, it's everyone vs. Chris now! :D

30 players also earned a promotion during the month, and 10 players earned a promotion to a Veteran, Crack or Elite rating. It so happens that 10 players also won their first game on the ladder, so well done to you if that hat fits.

Five results in our 2004 Mini Tournaments bring my summary of the month to a close, with early results featuring wins in Round 1 to Easy Albert (PTO Mini), Michael Weiss (Infantry Mini), BobEury (SK Mini), TheSQLGuru (SK Mini) and Chris Milne (PTO Mini).

That's it from me. Keep busy and keep those reports flooding in.

Cheers,
Andrew
