I hope, but I am facign an extremely veteran, and able, opponent. He's ranked 7th All-time and 2nd among active players, by WARS rating. It'll be a challenge, for sure.

Re: Italian Campaign (Veers-Allies vs Silvanski-Axis)

11/14-17/43 T20
Eighth Army:
Captured Arezzo.
The US 2nd Armoured Division continues to make stellar progress, liberating Cessena, and pushing the Germans back to their improvised line.

Fifth Army:
The CAN/US SSF landed at and secured Livorno, well behind the Germans fighting against the bulk of the Fifth Army. Meanwhile, a single US Infantry Regiment has advanced to within 30km of the city.
Evaporated the remainder of a regt.
Captured Grosetto and Siena.

Pic at thebeginning of Turn 20 (as I can't take one form th end because of the DO_NOT_SEND file bug because of when theis was started.

About a third of Fifth Army has reached the Arno, and the rest will be there in, at most, a week.

With the mid-point of turn 23. It can be seen that the Gothic Line has been rendered totally useless. Silvain's only hope now is the Po.

When Wyatt says "you're toast" you better believe it...
The Gothic Line was inadequately prepared and overrun in no time

Re: Italian Campaign (Veers-Allies vs Silvanski-Axis)

12/5-8/43 T26
Eighth Army:
The UK 5th ID swung far west, attacking Montova.
The New Zealanders spearheaded the advance over the Po southeast of Montova.
Canadian, British and American troops advanced north, between the Po and the Adige.
The French crossed the Agno, headed north, towards Vicenza.

Fifth Army:
With the war in Italy almost finished, Fifth Army has been diverted west, advancing towards southern France (at least it would be if I bother to advance with them:D).

General:
German resistance has stiffened considerably; the battles to cross the Po were particularly bloody.

Re: Italian Campaign (Veers-Allies vs Silvanski-Axis)

My last stand seems to turn into the most fierce.
If the Allies were expecting a free ride up the Brenner Pass, they were wrong.:p
The approach is quite narrow and in good defensive terrain, and we're still receiving reinforcements.
This is turning into trench warfare.:rifle:
Here's the frontline at the end of turn 26.
The red (destroyed) rail lines make me pretty confident in believing that the Allies have a few supply issues to resolve

Bitter combat continues as Allied troops advanced to the outskirts of Verona, but failed to take Montova.
The French were reorganizing after their initial combat, but will restart their push in the next few days.

The bloodiest battles of the Italian campaign are now being fought.

The end is in sight though. Too bad I wasn't able to put up such a defense earlier in the campaign, at Anzio, Cassino etc...

I've never played this scenario but as solitaire and not beyond T15 or so, IIRC. However, I've heard a German defense is impossible. After a while you run out of quality units.

Veers, in playing Gothic Line right now, if you're still considering making an Italian Campaign scenario, I suggest studying how the terrain is done in that one. Limiting off road/non-clear to the infantry.

Well, I don't know about impossible [I've seen a couple ladder reports (and one AAR) of successful German defences], but, hard, yeah.

Yep. Chuck has certainly done a good job in simulating Italian terrain. It's defeinately being considered (already was, in fact, before I started playing it this time).

T28

Probably the last offensive action of the Axis.
Cut around the French lines near Padova.
