Is there a crisis of choice in EVE Online?

I agree with Mittani that choice can sometimes lead to a weird sort of paralysis where one spends an inordinate amount of time deciding what to do, before doing nothing. But I'm also a big proponent of choice and certainly wouldn't want to see CCP take steps to limit it in any way.
I want to get into invention. I've been meaning to do it for a long, long time, but always ended up doing nothing because it seems like a daunting amount of work and learning before I can actually accomplish anything.
