Batman, the Dark Knight!
Technically Batman is not a superhero. He has no super powers. He is considered a detective, ...with really cool toys.
My wife is a psychologist. Funny, I never heard the word "angsty" before. However, it works.
Now, the Shadow might fit in here. (No not the Alec Baldwin fiasco). The original from the print and radio serials. Another detective, but with a Zen/Ninja-like ability to make himself invisible to evil doers.
