If someone were forced to disconnect from the internet what would become of the ability to play these games? This may become an unfortunate option due to health care costs.

Mac, sorry to hear that you or a loved one is not doing well.... Sadly, the internet is needed to access both Jutland and Distant Guns. Please don't take this as a final answer, SES or one of their reps will contact you and advise you of the actual impact. Again, Sorry to hear about your misfortune, just keep the Faith and things will sort themselves out. God Bless!!

Currently the internet is NOT needed to access and play these games, though all updates and patches and all tech support comes via the internet.

At least with the new Stormpowered front end you no longer need an active connection once the game is installed and it will play indefinitely off-line on any number of computers (each of which must be online to initually install it).

Some people here have said that they would not be able to play their games should SES fail as a company. This is quite untrue, the offline status of the games would endure permanently on the users PC, though since no DVD copy is available a hard drive failure or switch to a new PC would possibly mean the game no longer could be played (though it may be possible to play it if you took a full image of the HDD).

The "having to be online every 7 days to talk with our server you we won't let you play your game" was a major gripe from customers so SES decided to fix it.
