interdiction question

A question from a recent game, see attached.

The DM 237 must rout. The only path is through the foxhole. The foxhole is filled with a squad of overweight Germans.

If the DM 237 cannot use the foxhole, then does that make it "open ground" for interdiction purposes. In this case, interdiction from the Ami tank's BMG, looking down the road?

VB the squad and rout him out first. Then rout the HS through the foxhole. If the HS is more important than a functioning squad.

B27.12: Any overstacking in the hex occurs outside of the foxhole counter.

Since the HS can't rout through the foxhole with the squad there, your choices are to VB the squad or have the HS surrender.

Just don't forget as per ASOP VBs must be declared before routs.
