The nice thing about the HPS games is that the interface is basically the same for all the games of the same period. HPS is also very good about patching old releases up to include the engine changes of the newest releases. This way all the releases of a period basically play the same and it is not a big step to move from one title to the other.

That's something I don't understand as well Jim...I mean, if you have a good system that works why should you redesign it for each project? I like the fact that the general layout of the games is consistant, and to some extent customizeable (with the info bar positioning). Nothing will stop you quicker than a difficult interface from getting into a game...
In as much as I can make sense of their ignorant ramblings, it's the price. The critics feel that the games should be add-ons or completely new.

When people talk price it makes me laugh. For example:
Taking my family of 5 to 1 movie a bit of popcorn and some drinks. > $50.00 = entertainment for 2 hours, tops - forgotten in a few weeks.
Now not to take away from the value of family time, and the need for doing those things, but by way of comparison...
Campaign 1776 purchased in 1999 for $40.00. I still play this title today, 6 years later, and have a single battle and campaign going in it currently.
Again, not putting my hobby before my family (as I was accused of the last time I posted this on a forum somewhere), but I am attempting to illustrate the value of these products.
No one said every person has to buy every title, but for the ones they do I guarantee they will get a lot of life out of them.

I never really understood that complaint. HPS even keeps updating the older games to the new standard, instead of forgeting them and the players (I'm thinking about my favourite in the PzC series, Smolensk '41. Between that first release and the last PzC game, the game system has evolved considerably and yet, I can have that experience playing a game that is considered old by industry standards, with no extra charge)
Like I said in a post in the PzC forum, time is a scarce comodity for most os us and having a games learning curve eased with the similarities in interface, maps and such is valued-added in my opinion.
And people shouldn't confuse these updates with patches to fix broken bits. Publishers should strive for the "out of the box" quality of these games". The updates just fine tune and refine the experience.

Not many of us here can go into a spending frenzie like you without being to forced to sleep in the couch for a month+ and hearing our "better-half" going on and on about how there are other, more important priorities to spend money... For instance, it seems a new sofa superceeds two PC games, in my wife's budget report. Go figure.

I totally agree! Indeed, I don't think I've ever played a non-historical wargame. The biggest leap I've made are hypothetical scenarios in historical settings. Wait ... I did play a little bit of "Starship Troopers" many, many moons ago!Leftie said:
