How to cut out BFP overlays ?

While playing BtB12 "Going against the grain" some confusion occured on how to cut out BFP overlays.
The rulebook makes contradicting references on this topic in the desert and PTO chapters.
If you cut out on the inside, the existing walls of the map remain in effect. If you cut out on the outside this will negate the walls and bocage of the map.
Depending on how you cut out overlay V-2 this may have a big impact on how to play this scenario.

Recommendation is to cut them out outside of the exterior hexsides.

I cut them out per A2.71, which is similar to G.9A. The desert overlays were different, per F12.1, and I believe they are the exception, not the rule. The partial hexspines indicate to me that the intention was to cut them as per A2.71.
