I am defintiely rsing Intensive Fire way more than I used to. You get over that fear of the malf when you get the rush of the kill - and reading JR's article really helped sway my opinion.
Last game I played - Eye of the Tiger form the WCW pack, I malf'ed two T-34 tubes hooting at Pumas, because I figured killing Cats was the best way for the Russian to win this scenario - given the 30 VP cap. After the second "10" I was swearing I wouldn't IF again for the next ten scenarios. But late in the game, on Turn 5 or so, the Tiger presented his front to the T85 in a savage end game attack on the victory buildings, who had to swing to shoot. The first shot was at ridiculously low odds - BUT the IF would have been a hit on a six or less - and I took it. A pair of 4s later and we had a burning Tiger and shortly thereafter a Russian win on points.
Lesson reinforced - Intensive is usually a good option.
