Hell’s Highway – End of Tactical Mission Scenario 3 (Evening of 22 September 1944).

North Flank
– A set back for the British Grenadier Guards along the northern flank; the Germans launched a limited, last-turn counterattack, managing to knock out a Sherman Firefly and push back the infantry to recapture the hedge line and force the British to regroup around the (X9) crossroads. The Germans did also lose their last Panther tank on map to Allied Fighter-Bomber, as it was double stunned and Recalled. The landscape will change for the following morning as the fires will have burnt out, leaving an open chard forest (represented by Shellholes).

East Flank – The American Paratroopers supported by British Sherman tanks were mostly successful in keeping the Germans penned in along the eastern flank. However, an early withdraw allowed the Germans to regain some a couple of buildings. The front line is now situated between the two intersections (BB22 – BB31) with the German precariously hanging on for reinforcements to arrive. The Paratroopers have established a defensive line in depth, which should help to slow and stop any attempt by the Germans to attack towards Hell’s Highway.

West Flank – The American Paratrooper have flanked the German line along the rail line, with only the fires preventing from encircling the Germans. A couple of German halftracks are roaming the behind the Americans, but these are more of a nuisance than a threat.

Centre – The stand off between the American Paratroopers in the church and the Germans Panzergrenadiers and Engineers in the convent across the street. The German strongpoint in the convent is led by a 10-2 leader, who directs shit-load of firepower accurately killing or breaking any paratrooper who comes in range and LOS. The malfunction MMG in (M14) road hex is testament to this firepower as it has seen at least 3x HS killed trying to recover it. The Paratroopers have called in 75mm OBA several times mostly ineffective; it did immobilize a halftrack in the (S13) crossroads, and break a 5-4-8. The Americans have also made a limited push on the right side of Hell’s Highway and now is reinforced by British Sherman tank.

We will finish off the Consolidation Phase, before starting TM4 – AM 23 September 1944. This scenario will be the major attack by the Allies in an attempt to clear the Germans from Hell’s Highway.

This version is an updated version; the map is basically the same except rotated 30 degrees, improved graphics, and larger 25mm hexes grids; rules have been updated and polished up, VC for Tactical Mission have been modified, and a new and improved sheet of counters.

It is still under playtest, but I hope to have it ready by the end of the year, stay tuned for updates.
