B9.2 LOS: Wall and hedge hexsides are Half-Level obstacles to same-level LOS (A6.21) unless the wall/hedge hexside is part of the viewing/target hex. A wall/hedge hexside never blocks LOS to any portion of its own hex even in the case of Snap Shots or vs Bypassing units on the opposite side of that hex [EXC: 9.21]. A wall/hedge lying lengthwise (on a hexspine) exactly along a LOS is a Half-Level LOS obstacle only if the wall/hedge hexspine is not touching the viewing or target hex, or if touching one of the viewing/target hexes and the vertex opposite of the viewing/target hex has walls/hedges on all of its three hexspines.

Consider two diagrams with observing units at A, B, and C looking at target X.
In case 1, target X is at the center dot; in case 2, target X is in bypass of the building at the indicated vertex.

In both cases . . .
--LOS from A to X is open.
--LOS from B to X is blocked.
--Does LOS exist from C to X?

I think the C-to-X LOS should be open because . . .
--the C-to-X LOS encounters the Hedge closer to X than where the A-to-X LOS encounters the Hedge.
But this is a logical argument, not a rules argument.

Case 1:
30940

Case 2:
30941
(VASL disabled the LOS-checking algorithm due to the Overlays.)

I checked similar LOS lines on map 4 in VASL (for instance V8-to-Q2) and VASL shows the LOS lines as being open:

Interestingly, VASL says the LOS is blocked from V8 to the 4Q2-Q3-R2 vertex as the LOS clips the Hedge Hexspine while crossing R3.
30943
For the same reasons, I would call this LOS open.

There's unofficial Q&A on B9.2 and B9.3 saying the LOS is open.

B9.2 & B9.3 Assuming no building in Y3, hedges are hedge. Would a shot from BB6 against a target in Y3 receive +1 hedge TEM? Or is the shot blocked since the LOS doesn’t pass exactly (as B9.2 seems to indicate) down the hexspine of the hedge?
A. +1 TEM [K33]
