Hi Guys,

Well, after two years of playtesting and developement, HoB is proud to present FireFights

They are scenarios, that each feature:

Their own historical map
Variable Orders of Battle
Variable Reinforcements

And most importantly, they can be played in a 3 hour or less setting.

I usually favor huge scenarios, but having played these, the challenges and Fog of War they present are really fun and unique. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Go check one out for free at http://heatofbattle.com/ff.htm

Firefights and OBA

Now that I've looked at (but not played) the Firefight Teaser, I'm curious.

Was any thought given to making the 'automatic black for first OBA draw' an HSR? (Not that it helps me, but I think it increases the perceived realism)

FireFights - a very cool idea guys. High variability / replay value / innovation. Nice. These little battles - how will they be sold - in little AP-like packs? Can these little half-boards be twisted to be able to also be used as half-board overlays for existing boards? That would multiply their usefulness I think.

At one point, some in HOB were talking about making them either partially geomorphic or at least geomorphic wrt other FF maps, but I don't know if this ever was decided on.

FireFight! maps

These original maps were not designed so that they could also be used as overlays.

All future maps will be or they will be designed as a regular size mapboard that will mostly be geo-morphic.

Sometimes the terrain just does not lend itself to the standard Geo boards.

Now you all can see the beauty of the "teaser concept"
While we're in a pre-press status with everytrhing playtested and ready to print your feedback can still be incorporated.
I just checked most of the other FF maps and I think 4 are in so far geomorphic that they can be used as Overlays, or butted together to create a full mapboard. I'm currently working on this to see how it can be improved
So, the Teaser and your feedback - the best way to the beast ASL
Ciao

VASL Map available

We have just posted a ZIP file of the Teaser Map for VASL to the website
http://www.heatofbattle.com/ff.htm
or
http://www.heatofbattle.com/downloads.htm
The ZIP file is 186KB.
All you have to do is unzip the contained "bdff9" file into your VASL boards directory and start a new game. In VASL 4 you'll find "ff9" in your drop-down map selector while in VASL you you have to type in "ff9".
Enjoy it.

Error

I'm looking at the German variable reinforcements on the teaser (hopefully the latest version).

There appears to be an error. Unless a roll of exactly '4' is meant to bring in both reinforcement groups.

Is that an error I see? ;-)

FF9 Teaser Correction

You are correct... that is an error.
line one of German Variable units is DR = 2-4.
Line 2 should be 5-9 for the second Variable group

Thanks. That's the way we'll play it. . .tonight!!

I'll let you know what happens. (Initial impression - looks fragile, but interesting)
