I've not done this myself, but I have a friend who dry mounts his HASL maps to foam board. Maybe okay as long as you're not going to transport them anywhere.
Big mistake.

I tried this several years ago with my original Red Barricades boards. They are relatively fragile, bulky and difficult to store unless you have an attic. Also after a few years, the foam boards have a tendency to curl somewhat. I haven't tried laminating, though it seems to be a more practical solution.

Lamination is the only way to go. Leave an extra inch of laminate all the way around the map and you have lots of room to tape down, clamp it down etc. Without covering any of the map or without worrying about being careful to use lightweight removable tape.

I just read that to my woman and she rolled her eyes .., you know, THAT look.
