Wow...were the Brits planning to fight with supporters of Germany?

I had no idea!
The Finns weren't really supporters of Germany, they just accepted Germany's help and support to fight the Soviets and regain their homeland.

At the time, yes and later they did support Germany. However, the interesting part is that in Britain there was a large communist sentiment amongst the populous so supporting the Finns against the Russians curious.

But again, they were only interested in gaining back their home. Once they took it back they were reluctant to actually invade Russia. At the time, the British government viewed the Soviets as a hostile power as well, partly because of their territorial invasions and partly because they had a pact with Germany. They wanted to send troops to Finland to resist the Soviet invasion, but had no way to get them there.

Finns were kinda allied with the Japanese so it might be better to go with the Chinese. China invades Russia then launches a surprise attack on Finland, much more likely scenario. Or, Chinese commies infiltrate to the Finish border and launch a massive pincer operation straight at Helsinki, now your talk’in.

The British and the Soviets were allies. In fact the British attacked Finnish ships in 1941. The Finnish signed the Anti-Comintern Pact, but were not a real ally of the Germans in the Finnish’s view. They didn’t sign the Tripartite Pact. But in Paris they signed the peace treaties in 1947 as an ally of the Germans. The Finnish invade the USSR during the Continuation War. So the Finnish were not only interested in gaining back their lost territory during the earlier winter war.

Finland was also in debt to the German army/Freikorp for their independence from Red Russia..
