Hi,
the latest thing our game has thrown up is gusts and we are struggling to get our heads around how it effects smoke.
the situation is in the German prep fire phase an 80mm batt OBA successfully lays smoke a white +3 smoke counter is placed in the FFE hex and the six surrounding hexes. There is no wind but it is gusty.
in the next Russian rally phase the Russian wind change DR is 12 which as it is gusty invokes gusts for that player turn only. A wind direction dr is made for the determination of blaze spreads etc.
the ASOP then says during gusts all dispersed smoke is removed and white +3 smoke is flipped to it’s +2 side.
the question is does this apply to all smoke on board - the ASOP indicates that this action only effects the attacker.
Similarity later in the Russian go at advance fire phase gusts again effect smoke in the same manner but again only to the attacker.
In our situation the Russian player has no smoke on-board so is the German OBA smoke affected by the gusts or not.
if not it doesn’t make any sense that gusts would only effect the smoke laid by one side and not the other. If both sides smoke is effected than this seems to contradict the ASOP.
we are playing that in the rally phase where the Russian rolls for gusts the German OBA smoke is flipped immediately to its +2 side then in the German defensive fire phase a second +2 smoke counter is placed by the OBA (DFPh smoke is dispersed when placed) and then in the Russian advanced fire phase all German smoke counters are removed as there is gusts.
Are we playing this correctly?
regards
Simon
