For the last, say, 2 months, I've been completely unable to login to GS using the Google Chrome browser. I get no error messages of any kind, but when I try to login, nothing happens. I can browse the forum content, but only as a guest.

Everything works completely fine and normal using Firefox.

I don't think it can be any AV or spam blocker or anything like that, because all of those are in place while I'm using Firefox. It's not just a single PC, either, although my other PC is configured quite similarly to my main one.

Is it just me?

Are you using an ad blocker or some other extension? Have you tried disabling as long as it takes to log in? -- jim

double check if your browser location has https:// in front of the URL at the first page you go to, and then try logging in again. for a while, my phone didn't want to bring up GS, but my iPad was fine and i believe that was the issue.

(summons joel to make his usual admonishment to GS IT :) )

I use Chrome on my PC (Windows), Mac OS and Android smartphone, and have not problem logging in.
But, strangely, on my Android smartphone, I am asked to log in each time I open this site - which was not the case previously - while on the other devices, login is automatic...

Windows 10 on one PC and Windows 11 on the other.

Yes, and yes.

Well OK, that seems to have been the issue here too. I edited the bookmark to include the https and just like that, Chrome is now behaving. Thanks for the tip, although I would have sworn that Chrome always adds that prefix by default ....

The URL changed not too long ago from http to https. Perhaps your Chrome was remembering the old URL.

https was added to the site but the site doesn’t force redirects so that’s how old URLs get serviced by http still.

either way, at least he’s good-to-go now.

If one uses the share function on a message it also defaults to a http link.
