Hi!

What can you recommend for a good good on Japan/Chinese war that is more narrative than a historical study? Just want to read some cool stuff on this theater of the war.

Thanks!

Peace

Not cool stuff, but required reading:

Mitter, Rana: China’s War with Japan, 1937-1945: The Struggle for Survival (titled Forgotten Ally: China’s War with Japan, 1937-45 for publication in the US), 2013

I'm currently almost finished with "Shanghai 1937: Stalingrad on the Yangtze" by Peter Harmsen, recommended by Witchbottles in another thread. It might be what you're looking for, in terms of being more a collection of mini narratives than a historical study. Explaining the major actions by focusing in on a particular person who was in the middle of each one. I guess it's a workable thing, but I found it got old after a while, and the book is devastatingly thin on maps, which I always find are helpful.

Just got this in the mail today: Kangzhan, goes into great detail of weaponry used as well as the TO&E and OoB of most Chinese Divisions.
Haven’t read it yet, just skimmed it.
