I've heard rumours of significant weather rule problems in Guderian's Blitzkrieg II with respect to modelling the effects of Extreme Winter in 1941 and 1942.

Does anybody know about these? Is there any truth to these rumours? I haven't played the game yet myself, so I don't have my own opinion.

Not sure that I am aware of any problems with the weather in GBII. But I have not looked very close at it recently.

What are the complaints?

The rumour suggests the effects of Russian Winter on either side are greatly understated to the point of being unrealistic.

This is from my experience with it played under OCSv3.1 rules:

The collapse of the German rail cap in extreme winter has almost no effect of the German ability to supply the front. By the time December '41 rolls around the German rail engineers have pushed the railheads up far enough that no truck extenders are needed. That frees up the 15 or so German trucks to move the 10 or so SPs a turn. Proper use of divisonal trucks also adds to transport capacity. Plus the German player has lots of wagons to help out.

Also the throw range of German HQs down the roads makes supplying the front even easier. A PzCorps HQ has a thow range of 10MPs+1 hex which usually equals 21 hexes down the roads.

No German unit ever has a supply concern because of weather in GBII.

Furthermore German mobility in the winter turns is exactly the same as in the clear (summer) turns.

The October 1 campaign start is so ridiculously pro German that you should only play it with a newbie German and an experienced Russian player. A skilled German player will win the game on turn 1. However the game is so big that it won't become clear for another 30 turns or so.

Take the December or January starts for a more balanced and fun game.

The game might be different with the errata or under OCSv4.0 rules.
