I've only seen the very first episode. I keep meaning to get back to it, but I haven't had a chance yet. It is worth the time investment?

Definitely. While I reiterate my contempt for all the geek porn injected into the series just for shock value, the underlying story of a royal power struggle set against an oncoming apocalypse is definitely worth the ride. PS: The first season is the weakest because of all the backstory that needed to be established, and the fact that HBO didn't really open the monetary taps until they were sure they had a hit on their hands. Things take a noticeable improvement by the second season.

Have you read any of the books?

Yeah, I read the first three novels. They are very good, and while they DO have some graphic sex in them, it is actually LESS than the TV series. LOL! The books are worth reading, btw. I stopped because, frankly, I find the HBO adaption to be sufficiently similar to the books that it has become easier just to watch the show. LOL!

The biggest problem with any movie/show from a book adaptation is that you are only getting the director's interpretation. The show is becoming more and more typical of serialized television.

Also nothing ever will compete with Breaking Bad. I can't watch anything else because that show ruined everything else on television by being supremely kickass.

I agree 100%. Some might find the death rate a bit too much; but on the other extreme, we have Peter Jackson's method of storytelling that utilizes a childish, cartoony world of physics in which characters can fall hundreds of feet and not be scratched.

As far as the original Willis rant goes, I lost interest after his first few points. He has either not actually seen much of the show, or else he has no concept of what fantasy and character development are. Either way, the good points he made are somewhat lost in the evidence that he really doesn't know what he is talking about.
Wise words well said my friend. (Especially the comparison to Peter Jackson's diarrhea type crap he took all over Tolkiens books when he made the LotR and especially the Hobbit movies) Perhaps folks would like the Game of Thrones HBO series better if it stuck to the actual book's plot a tad closer and didn't add a bunch of side plots and scenes which pretty much were invented by the series producers to show more T and A than were actually in the book.

There is so much intrigue in the books but there is more action. Obviously they upped the intrigue to save money.

I hope the success of the show leads to a show about the history that inspired it. The Hundred Years War was tragic but it would make a great show.

Season 5 got off to a good start last night - a major death that wasn't in the books (kinda) and what looks to be a well designed shortening of the Tyrion -in Essos storyine.

Crossing fingers we won't endure that looongggg rive journey form Dance,.

Where do whores go, again?

Season 6 is off and running - and I am enjoying the hell out of it, now that Beniof and Weiss have surpassed Martin and I have little idea where the story si going. First two episodes have been very good and the show looks like it might be in the running for a back-to-back Best Drama Emmy.

DInklage is awesome, by the way. "please don't eat the help". I was never a huge Tyrion fan in the books, but I am loving Dinklage's interpretation of the role.

Agree. Not too many shows, actually zero, that I have on my Must See TV list. However, I was really looking forward to this season of GoT. Clearly not a show that you can watch and multi-task. Recorded Episode two last night and messed around on the internet while it was going. I was so lost by 30 minutes in that I had to rewind it, sit in the big chair and actually watch it.

Pretty excited to see what they are going to do with the Jon Snow character and that little Ramsey bastard just needs to be skinned and fed to his dogs. Whatever happen to the fat Knight's watch guy and the girl he was watching over? I really liked his character and he just disappeared once they left the north last season.

Good call on that Dave. Ramsay really lost face at the end. Finale should be amazing.

I love the running theme - both with Cersei and Tyrion about the advisability of using religious fanatics for partisan political ends.

Glad to see that little sh*t finally fed to his dogs. I heard the next two seasons are going to be short seasons with the show ending in 2018. The final season with the war against the white walkers should be fun to watch.

I would add this to my list of famous tv shows I have never watched (like Seinfeld and Friends) but it's still running. Let me know when it's done so it's safe.

Lots of bad people (and a few good ones) finally reaping what they sowed.

I'm glad the Hound is back. I always liked him for some strange reason.

At this point, I'm not sure how anyone can possibly stop Khaleesi. She's now got two armies, 2,000 mercenaries, her own navy, and three dragons. She's also go spymaster Vary's working on getting her some new and powerful allies, and they're hinting at a conceivable alliance with Jon Snow.

Defense always has an advantage in this type of warfare, but I'm not sure what advantage the Lannister's could possibly mount against Khaleesi and her dragons.

My out of the box guess on next season is that Kingslayer ends up killing his sister and eventually the entire show moves to the North with the battle of the Whitewalkers. If you consider why he killed the previous king was that he wanted to use the fire to destroy the city which his sister did. The look of disgust during the last episode spoke volumes to me about what potentially happens next.

Considering the use of fire to defeat the Whitewalker armies, the whole sequence around the 3 eyed raven and dragons, they eventually get help from Khalessi to defeat the Whitewalkers.

Funny how GoT gets you to think about what's next. No other show out there I would even spend a nano second thinking about, but I have to say the writing and acting are incredible to keep wondering what is next.

I binged the first four seasons of this awhile ago, but got board and gave up. Nothing happens. The violence and violent sex are real turn offs too. Maybe if I had spaced it out it wouldn't have felt so repetitive. It felt like a daytime soap opera crossed with soft core porn. At times I thought maybe the writer(s) weren't serious and it was all supposed to be a farce, or some kind of black comedy.
