In the north i decided to defend behind the Fulda WITH the 2nd PZGRDIV.Because the engineers would arrive too late to blow up the bridges near Kassel before the enemy attack I placed 3 infantrybatallions behind the 3 bridges near Kassel leaving one hex between the unit and the bridge to avoid fire from across the river and filling the open hex with mines.There was one big attack across the bridge into Kassel by the 57th gdmotrifle which failed disastrously .The enemy units fell back in diarray which allowed the engineers which had already blown up one bridge north of Kassel to blow up the other two.After that Kassel was secure.Only infantry from the 57th and 27th div got over the river and was easily defeated.
Around Bad Hersfeld units from 11th ACR were easily pushed back by the 79thgdtk and 39th gdmotrifle and retreated north.All available attackhelobatallions were used to harass the enemy to gain time for the arrival of the 3rd armoured and the german 5th armrd.The german 5tharmrd arrived first surrounding and destroying leading units of 79th div in two pockets.Later the rest of the 79thdiv units were envelopped,surrounded and slowly destroyed in a big pocket.Just after that the 20thgdmotrifle crossed the Fulda and was pushed back,cut off by blowing the bridge over which it had crossed and then envelopped,surrounded and gradually destroyed.The 5th ger armrd then went over to the defensive behind the Fulda for the remainder of the game and limited itself to mopping up remnants off 79th and 39th div .
The US 3rdarmrd was held up by a few units of the 76thgrdairmobile.After it had destroyed them it attacked the 39thgrdmotrifle from the flank and scattered it.Leading units pushed fast towards Bad Hersfeld and retook it.Because units of the 7thgrdtkdiv were discovered between Bad Hersfeld and Eisenach,a few batallions supported by attackhelo ere left behind to cover Bad HERSfeld while the bulk of the 3rdUSarmrd moved south ,crossed the Weser and moved on Eisenach from the south and took it against light resistance of artiileryunits.The 7th grdtk tried to move back over the Weser towards Eisenach but were repulsed and continually harassed by attackhelo untill the end of the game. Some units from 3rdUSarmrd moved east while others moved north and blocked bridges over the Weser.
Around Fulda the bulk of the 11thACR was only lightly attacked.Later part off the unit was sent west to fight the bulk of the 76thgrdairmobile which was gradually destroyed.
South of Fulda the 12thGerarmrd was first only lightly attacked by some units of the 7th eastgermantkdiv which temporarily took Bad Kissingen but were later counterattacked and destroyed.The 12tharmrd then was attacked by the 2nd polishmotrifle which it easily defeated.For the rest ot the game remnants of defeated polish units were mopped up .
The 10thGERarmrd moved around the northern flank of the 12th GER armrd,destroyed WP army artillery units and then crossed over the Werra into eastgermany.When near the Saale it bumped into the 11thgrdtkdiv which had retaken Saalfeld from a USairmobilebatallion.After heavy artillerypreparation and air attacks Saalfeld was retaken a few gameturns before the end.
Schweinfurt was initially defended by 2 brigades of the 3rdUSinfdiv.It was attacked by the 7theastgermann tkdiv and the polish 5th and 10th tkdiv.The attacks were repulsed and the 3 enemy divisions were envelloped by the canadianbrigade and units from the US 8thinfdiv.The resulting pocket was slowly cleaned up.
In the south the 2nd cav was easily pushed out off Bamberg by the 4th and 11th eastgerman motrifle divisions and retreated towards the Main were one brigade of the 3rd USinfdiv was positioned.I kept the arriving units of the 8thUSinfdiv back intending to make a wide flanking movement around the 2 enemy divisions.As soon as i saw that the enemy moved towrds the Main i moved the 8th infdiv around the flank.The estgermandivisions tried to retreat but too late.The road was cut off by the 8th infdiv.The estgerman 4th and 11th motrifle were then surrounded and slowly destroyed.Some units from the 8th infdiv then moved east,retook Bamberg and moved into estgermany towards the Saale were they helped in fighting the 11thgrdtkdiv .Others moved northwest and took part in the destruction of the 7th eastgertkdiv and polish 5th and 10th tkdiv
The airmobile units were used to take the furthest VPhexes and hereby destroyed the WPsupplybase.
All VP hexes were taken.At the end the only intact WPdivisions were behind the Fulda southeast of Kassel but these were without supply.
