I agree about spending time playing, but nearest FtF is several hours away so VASL is usually it. Fiddling with storage keeps hands on cardboard periodically.
So true and I play a majority of the time on VASL as well, even with a weekly ftf with Steve Johns. I have Tom Morin for VASL playtests and usually have a non-playtest VASL game going on with someone else. Retirement has been a boon for my ASL playing time for sure.

I tried my own self-printed storage system last weekend when I was at the Conscripts tournament. It is similar to the designs shown in previous posts, just smaller. Long story short: It was a disappointment. While I dramatically increased the efficiency and saved a lot of space there was one huge drawback: Getting counters out of the box and back in is quite time consuming if you don't have tweezers.

So I am going to give a Raaco style storage a try. Can you tell me what size each box on the left is?

No matter if you use 3D printed stuff or old style RAACO:

You DO need tweezers in any case.

Top-left "SQ"-box: Einsatz A78 (Nr. 115766) (HxBxT): 24 x 79 x 109 mm
Top-right "RE"-box: Einsatz A75 (Nr. 115759) (HxBxT): 24 x 79 x 109 mm

Can't remember the ID-# of the bottom inserts without internal dividers, but the "outer" measurements will be the same as for A75 and A78.

For detailed inspiration on how to set up a RAACO storage from scrap, see here.

All storage is a series of tradeoffs. Density vs packed air. Retrieval vs ease of storage. A trash bag would be compact and easy to put things into. Retrieval would be a pain. I favor retrieval: being able to locate a counter quickly. I found a retrieval-based system is terrible for system counters. For them, I pack more air and use a more balanced approach.

The bottom line is this: the best storage system is the one that works for you. -- jim

All true, and happy to see we are talking about the utility of the system on game day rather than it's ability to withstand natural disasters or fiery car crashes.

Honestly who doesn't have tweezers?

You got pictures?

Prinicipally, I do believe, if you want space optimized storage, you will need tweezers, regardless of the system.

If that is not a consideration, other solutions might be viable.

Not using tweezers does imply, naturally, enough space for your fingers to interact with the counters. The space required by tweezers to interact with counters is undoubtedly less than those by fingers.

Some might use these suction tools.

But these are only good for interaction with single counters and don't work with stacks.

Unless playing via VASL, I agree that the use of tweezers makes absolute sense.

Yes, I've posted pics several times. Here's the most recent.

Me, and my oppos, routinely use fingers vice tweasers to move counters in and out of these trays.

You fall on the side of packed air and ease of access. Nice compromise. -- jim

I can't imagine playing any but the smallest sparsest scenario without tweezers. Maybe I just have fat fingers.
