I am trying to make sense of B30.2

30.2 A pillbox is not an obstacle or Hindrance to LOS. However, LOS from inside a pillbox may be traced only within its CA [EXC: the pillbox Location and the same-level Location outside the pillbox are ADJACENT; 30.6]. Units in an adjacent, ground-level Location within a pillbox's CA are treated as being ADJACENT to units in the pillbox (and vice versa) for purposes of Point Blank Fire, FPF, DM, rout, and for DC Placement vs the pillbox. Fire from inside a pillbox into its own hex is limited to CC, or SMOKE grenade placement, or a Thrown DC (30.31), or to vertices of its CA, or to PBF vs units currently crossing the CA hexsides of its own hex. Mortar fire and fire vs an Aerial target are NA from inside a pillbox.

A squad enters the pillbox location from a hex within its CA that contains smoke. The pillbox is in a woods location. What TEM (if any) apply to defensive first fire from the pillbox?

Point blank fire with the twm of the hex being entered. Woods in this case. The smoke is in the hex being ecited so has no effect.

Ain’t it triple PBF ?
The rule says PBF. I think that TPBF only applies to units in the same location as opposed to the same hex (EXC: PRC. are subject to TPBF in the same hex).
The next question is what happens with regard to residual fire. If Vinnie is correct, which seems to be consistent with the rule, does the defensive fire place a RFP counter in the location that can attack units entering from outside the CA? I guess it does, presumably on the same basis that residual firepower in a woods/building location can affect units bypassing on the opposite side from where it was placed.

Assuming you mean no SMOKE in the hex containing the Pillbox, and movement w/out Bypass of the Woods but INTO the Woods, then just the Woods TEM of the hex containing the Pillbox.
Ain’t it triple PBF ?
No, because it’s ADJACENT Locations, not same Location.
