Jesus Bugger it's been a while since I started a poll.

So here it is, the ASL Journal poll. I wanted to do it earlier but I wanted to leave Journal 7 some room to get into peoples hands. I know some people still dont have it but oh well, I'm posting this anyways.

So vote for your favorite ASL Journal and then please explain why its so good. Also, if you dont mind, tell me whether or not Journal 7 is any good, it beeing the newest one out and all.

So vote away folks, and may there always be enough choices in the poll.

Wish I could Vote for 2 of Them

I always Have 3 (for the Russian 1943 Armour Battles open)and 4 (love bren carriers) open for Articles and Scenarios - they really are cool

Having said that - I refuse to pay 300 USD on ebay (try that in NZD 600-700) for J2 so I am unaware of the articles beyod what Mr Pitman has said (just makes me want to get it so I have stopped looking - I would love a copy of the armour example article in the journal) - I have the scenarios - thanks to someones kindness

I woted J6, but that's because I got my first published scenarios in there, so I'm cleraly biased. (I would't trade J6 to another, barring the ridicolous E-bay praces for J2).
But, the best Journal imo is J2, clerly!

I cannot really choose.
I have them all, but I don't feel I want to decide which one is the best
J1 was a good surprise, as it took over the Annual tradition.
J2 is a classic, out of reach gem. I don't quite like the Kakazu thing, as I am shy about the cave rules...
J3 is full of simple, nearly only infantry scenarios (the 'Norway' series)
J4 has those recce unit (and carriers) scenarios I like a lot
J5 has excellent scenarios
J6 has the Primosole CG, scenarios and map : I really liked that one
J7 seems to have interesting scenarios and the Ostfront accent is welcome...

If you want an advice : try to have them all, but at a reasonable price.

I'd vote for Journal 6, but since that's the only one I have, that's not very telling. It's main asset is a nice mini campagin game. The article content isn't that good though, too much of it was taken up by that massiv British article which (Despite me neing British) I didn't find that interesting. I haven't played enough of the scenarios to form a good opinion yet, but the two I have played have been pretty interesting.

I chose J7 because of the Eastern Front focus but really I have J3, J4, J5, J6 and J7 and I like them all...

I'm going to say Journal 1 for sentimental reasons. The phoenix rising from the ashes of the Annual presaged the phoenix arising from the ashes of AH's neglect of ASL.
Look no further than the very first scenario for a reason for optimism in the future.

Overall, the Journals have enjoyed a fairly lofty standard, so far as scenarios go, with pleasant surprises often tucked inside the cozy little packages. For me, excepting the Norway scenarios (I once thought Alpine Hills was a neat, wrongfully neglected rule until I played The Last Roadblock...damn skulking...), I have enjoyed their scenarios almost without exception.

97 Annual, then the 96 Annual. Both were done by MMP, but they were both much better than any of the journals to date.

The best Journal? #1. Battling Buckeyes, Jungle Fighters and a few other jems. But above all it gave us hope.

They were? Why? I feel they are essentially the same as the Journals.

I have to say I did enjoy your jungle fighting one. That is why I voted for journal 5. And because it is the only one I have!

Journal 6 because it has the Primosole CG. It's a nice small CG good for not too expert players. It will be my first CG the day I will decide to begin with CGs !
And it is settled near my home (less than 200 Kms) in sunny Sicily.
Last year I made a few pictures of the places as they appear today.
here's the link to those forum pages:

Journal 2

This was a tough choice.

Journal 3 with the articles about the Norway Invasion and all them scenarios was really tough to pass up.

But you gotta give Journal 2 the vote because of:
The Dan Dolan Kakazu Ridge Map sheet.
The Counter sheet, can always use more PzKpw IVHs.
and
Best of all
The picture of Curt and Ray shaking hands on the back advertisement.

That's easy.

Two opponents. More if you want.:hush:
British (Paratroops, Infantry, armor), Italians (a few, but still fighting a little), Germans (Fallschirmjaeger, Infantry and armor).
