Factories and Guns

I might be missing something here but... its been a long time since my last Stalingrad campaign.

C2.7 notes that a Gun that is not a small target or an AT/INF may not set up in buildings unless the Location is fortified. I checked RB and VotG and I do not see an exception for Factories.

Am I correct in understanding that a tank can set-up in a factory but a (ie 76L ART cannot (unless fortificed)?

Or have I missed a clarification/EXC somewhere along the line?

Check O5.6, all categories of Guns may set up in RF Factories. Small type guns [EX: 45LL ATG] can set up in upper floors of any building as long as its fortified.

AFAICT ... the allowance for all guns in factories is common if not universal: ABTF 3.4; VOTG 6.1 (citing O5); FB - Z6.84. Did not find an exception but didn't look that hard either.

I do not think this is so:

C2.7 PROHIBITED HEXES: A Gun cannot occupy an upper building level [EXC: Fortified Buildings and mortars on Rooftops], nor can it occupy a Water Obstacle, crag [EXC: mortars; B17.4], marsh, or Irrigated-paddy (G8.12) unless dm and possessed or in/on a vehicle/boat. Small-Target-Size Guns and AT/INF Guns that are not large targets are the only ⅝" non-vehicular Gun counters that may ever occupy a building/rubble hex [EXC: Rooftop mortars (B23.85); Fortified Building (B23.93)].

I also checked B23. Unless an SSR allows it or otherwise invokes O5.6, I believe this is verbotten. There is some small question regarding VSE's (Any unit may use the Open Ground entrance benefits of a Vehicular-Sized Entrance—but only when entering it from outside that Factory and not if that Entrance is Roofless (see O5.42 for RED BARRICADES). ) but I am pretty certain a Gun does not qualify as a unit. -- jim

I was speaking to the HASL rules that have factories ... not non-HASL rules
