ELR and Elite squads.

An American Elite 737-squad ( ELR 5) has to take a 1MC.
Player throws double six.
What happens?
First they split ( because of ELR ) : 1 737 squad becomes 2 half squads.
Then casualty reduction : for both the half squads or only for one half squad?
