I am playing Operation Barbarossa russians vs computer. for some reason elmer puts his supply units right on his attacking hexes with his forward units. this seems odd to put supply units at risk, instead of keeping those supply units back a couple of hexes. anyone know why the computer does this?

I have been trying to answer your post for some time now but only a change in browsers has allowed me to do so. Go figure.

Elmer does not really use specialist units that well. In fact, anything that isn't infantry or armour. Sometimes is does better than other times but it is always a problem.

One example I had recently was with an engineering unit. It moved to bridge a super river (it had the assets to do so) and all the other units in the formation formed up just short of the river because they had run out of movement points. However, next turn, the engineering unit charged off into the wild blue yonder and took on the entire German Army Group South by itself while the remaining units in the formation were stuck on the wrong side of the super river with no way to cross it. Such is life.

Best wishes,
Steve

AFAIK, Elmer's problems with supply/HQ/support units goes way back. I _think_ I remember that Ralph adjusted things in 3.2 (?) so that HQ's had to stay a step behind. I recollect Telumar asking for a similar adjustment to supply units. I do not know if anything's planned on this front.

And my experience is that it makes no difference who the designer is nor how old/new the scenario - give Elmer 100 GMC's and he'll plow right into an entrenched panzer unit. And he did, when I tried out McB's Alamein scenario; and pasted that poor panzer outfit taking minor losses. But when I try the same stunt... poof goes the supply unit.

That's _my_ idiocy ! Move the only Eng unit around onto the broken bridge, conserve remaining MPs so next turn Eng. Pctg will > 60%, stack follow on units in prep, wait for next turn, and then next turn, move the engineers their full MP down the road !?!? Hmm, maybe I should use PO Assist on myself.

Ogar,

Yeah, it's not only the PO that does stupid things. Perhaps it is just a mirror of humanity!

Best wishes,
Steve
