I notice some oobs structured like this:
American A American Army
Begin
L 4 4 0 Maj. Gen. N. Greene
D Continentals
Begin
B Maryland Regiment
Begin
L 3 5 0 Col. O. Williams
R 1st Battalion
Begin
L 3 5 0 Lt. Col. J. Howard
The D level has no leader. Can A level Greene pass his comand bonus (presuming he passes command test) to B level Williams without a leader at the inbetween D level?

Yes, they just got get the (potential) double bonus if there would have been two leaders in the line to pass it down.

Really? I was told a long time ago, that the chain was broken, so no bonus handed down from A level to B level if D level was non-existent.

OK, so that was a good question. I've seen a Hobkirks Hills oob presented thusly:
Maj. Gen. Nathanael Greene
Col. Otho Holland Williams - Left Flank Brigade Commander
1st Maryland Regiment 200 - Col. John Gunby
2nd Maryland Regiment 200 - Lt. Col. Benjamin Ford
Capt. Robert Kirkwood's Delawares 40
Gen. Isaac Huger - Right Flank Brigade Commander
1st (4th) Virginia Regiment 200 - Lt. Col. Samuel Hawes
2d (5th) Virginia Regiment 200 - Lt. Col. Richard Campbell
If the chain is broken, this would solve the problem. How about a definitive answer?

I confirmed with John giving him this scenario:

In the EAW engine if you have an "A" level commander pass his test, the "D" level is present, but no commander assigned, and then there's a "B" level commander, will the "B" receive the bonus from the "A" or is the chain broken because of no leader being assigned to the "D" level?

His response:

"The bonus should be passed. The game maps each leader to their superior. The "B" level commander will have the "A" level commander as their superior."

----------------

So, the potential to receive a bonus is there.
