Got it but is way down the reading list....

Yes, I have read it. It is worth getting, and is an interesting counterpoint to Glantz's Operation Mars.

How much does this book cover about the fighting around Velikiye Luki?

Kevin - Velikiye Luki is mentioned in passing but this book is focused on the battles around Rzhev, Belyi and Viazma. I second it is a very good book. I followed it up with Lopukhovsky's Viazma Catastrophe 1941 (also very good).
