draggable overlays not working and other strange behavior with macOS Sierra and latest java

I recently upgraded to macOS Sierra and have the latest version of Java installed (Version 8 update 121). Now I am unable to drag and drop anything from the draggable overlays window onto the map.

I also have an issue where the position of the map within the window will jump like it is scrolling when I right click on things.

Does anyone know of workarounds for these issues?

Uh oh, good thing I didn't update my Java yet!

I can tell you Sierra doesn't seem to be a cause. Sierra + 1.8.0_112 is working.

Does anything appear in the VASSAL Error Log window when you try to drag something out? Might be helpful towards isolating the issue.

Also I have been using the latest version of VASSAL 3.2.17 and VASL 6.3.3. I just tried downgrading VASSAL to 3.2.16 and that did not fix either problem.

This was taken after you attempted to drag a draggable overlay in? I have been using the OBA FFE only because it comes up by default.

That was a fresh reload of VASSAL->VASL->open log-> attempt to drag the OBA overlay.

To me the error log looks pretty normal, but I can't claim expertise. I am able to drag on FFE draggable overlays using vassal 3.2.17, vasl 6.3.3, OS debian, java 1.8 111.

I found a way around it which isn't ideal but does work. I had to uncheck "Use combined application window" in the VASL preferences and now I am able to drag overlays onto the map. I will just have to get used to the separate windows I suppose.

My "use combined application window" preference is and has been checked on both machines, so the issue isn't directly related to that. You might try removing all your extensions to see if the problem goes away:

On the machine with java 1.8 121 I believe I don't have any extensions loaded. If the issue does go away you can add the extensions back one at a time to figure out which is the problem.

That is most unfortunate. When you test your problem, are you loading a particular map or saved game? I have been going in without loading a saved game, starting a log (although I have tried starting a log just in case), and loading board 1. I have seen problems I think were caused by exchanges between mis-matched systems. Is there any other change you might have made that I can test, e.g. in your preferences? As I said, my installation works. I do not use vasl extensively, mostly to generate images to put up on gamesquad or to create and save set ups.

I was loading a saved setup on board 56. I just tried it on a log for a different game using multiple BFP boards and have the same problem if I enable the combined window. Without it combined, both work.

Would it be possible for you to switch to the "use combined application window" briefly and see if you can duplicate Mr. grinder's results? I see no issues, but it may be because I am running on linux.

I switched my configuration to "combined application window". I had the same error (bug) as the original poster. It was difficult to even highlight a draggable overlay, let alone drag it from the tray.

Ok, then perhaps it is a problem that happens on Macs only, or at least does not happen on linux. I do not have a windows machine set up with vasl, so I can't test it.
