Whilst pontificating on another thread I mentioned GHQ Micro Armour. In the original rulebook there was an ad in Chapter J for GHQ Micro Armour for DASL. Each Micro Armour pack was supposed to include miniatures and a scenario. I don't recall if they were ever produced, I know I never saw one of the scenarios. The only GHQ miniatures I ever saw were the ones presented to Fish for winning a DASL tournament They were handpainted by GHQ and were presented to Fish by the president of GHQ,if I remember correctly. Fish gave me two Tigers and a truck. I don'tknow what became of the rest. I didn't see them in his gaming stuff when I was helping his brother.

Did anyone ever play with them? They seemed very fragile, especially the gun barrels. If anyone has any of the miniatures or the scenarios I'd love to hear from you. Thanks.

I had a ton of them, and even designed scenarios for them. We often played using them. I was sorry it never took off because I was a big fan...looks like just about the only one.

Played using then once in a bar on 3D xtra large boards. The patrons were fascinated with the little, silver tanks.

Long gone.

Had all minis to play all the DASL scenarios. But used them once or twice, so eventually gave them away a long tine ago.

Used mine just last year with the deluxe maps. There should be a couple of AARs on here

In your post I think you touched on the root of the problem, "ton". Now imagine taking you xtra large boards and a few pounds of dead weight lead to a tournament. I think you would need a tank transporter to bring them all to ASLOK.

no deluxe players are the sharpened entrenching tool users of the ASL world. The ranges are all so close and uptight, a high powered rifle would be at a severe disadvantage.

Well all the ones with broken gun barrels, along with the left over ones you got tired of gluing together can be poured into a sturdy sock and used as an effective sap.

I meant as opposed to the Bullseye Pistol Shooters. The wind is cold coming off the lake.

I have played with the mirco armory stuff about 20 to 30 or so years ago. But I don't remember which rule sets we used, I know I have used Tractics, and two others but can't remember those other two systems.

For me miniatures was always the same, a meeting engagement in ...Poland, France, Greece, North Africa, Russia, and Italy.

The lack of imagination in miniatures was the boring part, the one thing they had was the social aspect, but that was soon and easily replaced with ASL.

Basically if you play one miniature game you played them all, be it Civil War, Napoleonics, WW2 or Modern. I used to go to a club that played them every week and even with different systems, era's and armies it was always the same.

Charlie Kibler has a HUGE and extremely well painted set of GHQ minis, as well as quite a few ASL boards blown up to the correct scale and 3d terrain that he handcrafted. He used to run games of that at Avaloncon, and ASLOk, haven't seen it out in years though.

Now playing ASL with minis would be cool.

I only got to do that once, but we used 1/72 scale models and boards 1, 2, 3 and 4 that Al Davis created, and it was based off of a scenario either he or Bill created based off of Budapest.

The miniatures I mentioned were the lead figure kind with strange rules and they always seems to play the same to me, meeting engagements, but that ASL with 1/72 was like playing ASL with cardboard but with models, beer, vodka and a few other things...lol

I have a large collection of GHQ miniatures that I use on DASL maps and on my 200% enlarged map set. The older castings did have very fragile barrels on them, particularly the Panzer 38t. I brought them to ASLOK one year, but people were not too keen on using them so I never brought them again. To identify which tank is tied to a specific Aquisition counter I painted letters on the bottom of the vehicle. Even with this it is a bit cumbersome to keep track of which aquisition is tied to which vehicle.

I do have a lot of microarmor. I love the 3d aspect of having the tanks and infantry instead of the counters. I am always trying to take ASL to the gaming table to make it work. GHQ does have the original infantry still today.

A couple of years ago someone brought microarmor to Grenadier tournament and played with them IIRC. But I can't remember what his name was.

In the late 1980s I bought enough Micro Armour for a German Kampgruppen, and seperate armor for a King Tiger, Tiger I, Panther and Mark IV tank Battalion and a Mech Inf Regt (SdKfz 251s and many variants)....

An American Combat Command and a Russian Tank Brigade of T34s and a Heavy Regt of KVIs and JS series.

Got them painted in flat drab colors and used them several times in Squad Leader Scenarios......

Did these come in the Action Packs with a scenario or were the pieces sold by themselves? If they came with scenarios were they new AH scenarios? already published AH scenarios or non AH scenarios? Thanks, Darryl

From what I remember, the GHQ items were endorsed by AH, but were never included in any scenario packs that were published.

The RBv1 does have the endorsement for getting the GHQ armor on one of the pages, for a more realistic use of the Deluxe boards.

I bought the Armor packs in what were called "Combat Command" Packs. Each pack had about a Company of Armor for the US and Germans and 21 AFVs for the Russians (with supporting vehicles in each). I also bough the special vehicles in packs of 5 or 4, depending on the vehicles.

The cost averaged out to about $1 for each vehicle. If I tried to replace the GHQ armor now-a-days, each AFV would average about $4 each.

Kevin,

Your pricing is a bit off - a 5 pack of armor is usually $9.95 so about $2 each, or less if you are patient and buy during their annual Christmas sale with 10-15% off. I have collected and painted some 2,000 pieces since AH and GHQ teamed up with the "expanded" DASL idea.
