Mark Evan's words:

Well, I can say that I did propose (jokingly) a VASL extension that allows for clipping VASL counters.

While it is not possible to meddle with the VASL counter trays, at least I have my "typical" way to create VASL setup-files and to arrange orders of battle offboard.

So I reckon, that qualifies for both. ;)

Yes, of course! I obsessively drove around town buying up all the "planos" I like. But my clipping project came to a halt once I heard about LASL in the pipeline.

VASL counters have a 3 pixel clip as a matter of course. No need to clip them on your own since they are properly produced. -- jim
That's fine for 1/2" counters, inadequate for 5/8" counters. It's all about proportions! 🤪

I am pretty sure the 5/8" have the same. You would have to look. -- jim

Never crossed my mind. All I can do to clip the counters I use for FTF games...

The biggest problem of clipping those VASL Counters: Those bits and bytes you cut off, play havoc in the bathtub.

YES OF COURSE!!!

Well, sort-a. My old school method was mild clipping cleanup and Plano 3701s with squads/Half squads mixed and vehicles mostly by type, you know ALL the PzIVs coexisting...

Honestly doing so (clip/sort) and ASL in general helped save my life:

I went on a loooooong hiatus starting in 2012ish. Fast forward winter 2022, while ending my day at work, my foot slipped when climbing off a scissor lift and POW! My knee exploded with the sound of a baseball coming off Willie Stargell's bat. Needless to say, I had holes drilled in me and wired back together. Yeah, I'm now the 6 Dollar man. I was off work 1 year and 2 months spending the early part learning how to walk again. It truly was a dark time in my life.

ASL:
I've played ASL since day one and have had a hiatus or two. Therefore, I have enough sense to never sell off my collection. When Chas started enlarging the counters with FK&C, I decided to update the ASL as the core modules were released. Also, my second copy of BV needed retired as the Germans were getting really worn out. Even during my long hiatus, I mostly kept up on the ASL upgrades and just put them aside in the shrink.

As the Styx song goes, I had too much time on my hands. While I was initially laid up, I systematically clipped BV, Yanks, Rising Sun, Red Factories, SME, CdG, HL, HP, FW, HiF, FB, and Manila. I spent 8 hours a day for weeks on end clipping and sorting. Yeah, I know, there are some in Middle Earth that deem that unwise. To be honest, it was done not for OCD reasons but rather to keep me busy and sane.

At that time, I decided, HEY! I should start playing this again. Initially I found a few local players one a beginner and the other a decent player that plays a good bit. Me, being a bit of an extrovert that was couped up too long... I had a hard/awkward time readjusting to personal social activities. There were a few bumps in the road to say the least. Come the winter of 23-24, I'm walking with no limp, albeit in some pain at that time, I still wasn't cleared to return to work. By that time a few more local guys (one of which I played for many decades) came out of the woodwork, and I started playing 2 to 3 games a month on avg.

Since I was doing home and away games, I needed to update my storage methods for travel. So, I tossed Derek Ritter a bone and spent a small fortune on Raaco's and Dividers. Now all the vehicles are by Ch H and the footprint is reduced. Now, I'm not going to hyper organize and will keep it very functional.

Yeah, I clip and organize for function and FTF play nearly exclusively. I often wondered why on earth, guys that play VASL clip and organize and I may have looked down my nose at them as being oddballs. Now I totally understand.

Now I have settled into a 2 game a month average (I'm not retired from the day job yet) which is a happy medium of scratching the itch and not burning out.

So yeah, to me clipping/sorting/cutting was/is therapeutic. and I'll never knock someone who does every again.

So yeah, thank you MMP for keeping this going, and thank you all for sharing this hobby!

Blaspheme!
Yeah, well, Luddite methods are very practical. When the ICBM's all go off and the EMP burst renders VASL inoperable. Well, you know where to go for AASL (Armageddon Advanced Squad Leader).

Recent current events had me clean out Sam's Club of Tin Foil to make ASL suits and hats. AND!!! Once the radiation kicks in and my hair falls out, I'll never be devoid of LOS string. You can't say that of VASL!!!
