With Rd 1 finishing so quickly ROUND 3 will start earlier @ Sept 30 instead on Nov 13, unless someone needs a later start.

Title: KM-Diverse Tourney Round 3 “Escort the Tea” (CMBB)
Type: Meeting Engagement with attack and defend.
Date: March 1943
Location: Another obscure place along the Eastern Front.
Region: Combined
Terrain: Rural
Weather: Dry, Cool, Clear, Midday.
Wind: Breeze
Turns: 35
Size: Large (1440 x 1200)
Points: 1800 (1400 Escort Force and 400 Defense Force)
Designed for: PBEM only
Designer: Palantir
Notes: Each force, defensive & offensive has its own setup area.

Situation: Another day of chaos on the eastern front as enemy scout forces have penetrated the front lines near "Noborgski," cutting off all roads leading to Army Headquarters.

Orders: You are to take immediate command of all friendly forces in the area and regain control of the situation: including seeing that the Supply Convoy carrying the tea, ("Earl Grey" - hot) make it safely through this neutral zone.

Note- the terrain in this one has been funneled into a corridor shape specifically to create heightened combat action & make the scenario really different instead of a boring "hub" and radiating roads...
(thats for a later round :devious: )

I'm sure upon the viewing of your hodgepodge units and the encounter with the enemies elite units everyone will be crying "foul!" :blab: This was done on purpose to make the mission that much harder to complete so that your overmatched yet gallant troops can have a glorious victory.
:nofear:
Something you & your pixel warriors can be proud of. :broccoli:
:laugh:

It seems that this one is delayed? or else my opponent has the setup and hasn't responded to my email? Just curious...

While not technically delayed I was going to start this one earlier than the Nov 13th date since Rd 1 finished up so quickly. I was waiting to see if any other Rd 2 games finished up this last week before sending out the setup for Rd 3 on Oct 4th.

It will run till December 30th.

Whoah. I haven't even started round 2 yet, so let's just hold off for now. I thought the matchups were based on the scores of the previous round(s)?

No, the matches are setup randomly but to ensure everyone plays a new opponent the next round except for the final Round (5), it will be a matchup based on overall scores.

We can hold off a couple of weeks more to let everyone get further along in their Rd 2 game if needed. These are supposed to be for fun, not to overload anyone.

Yeah, I agree with waiting a few weeks. I don't want to hear my opponents claim that they are underperforming because they had 2 tournament games concurrently :p

Well, if we are voting, I say: LET'S GET ON WITH IT!

Of course, if we are not voting, I stand mute...

Edited to add: Imagine a tournament with 10 players and 5 battles going simultaneously, each against a different opponent! Now, that would be an excellent undertaking! I used to have 5-10 PBEMs going at any one time - regularly... Sometimes, multiple battles with the same opponent... I must say, that was what CMx1 really got right.

I guess the lack of response means that no one else thinks that a multiple simultaneous battle style tourney is a good idea... Oh, well...

We are actually doing that with overlapping rounds: it's just that the first round ended very quickly, and then we had MD's game bug that delayed his Rd 2 starting. We'll have Rd 3 up & running before all Rd 2 games are over. Plus Rd 3 will overlap with Rd 4 which will take more of your gaming time as it's a large scenario.

(Original schedule)
Rd 1 starts August 7, ends October 11.
Rd 2 starts Sept 4, ends November 8.
Rd 3 starts Nov 13, ends @Feb 7. {will be starting sooner & thus ending sooner}
Rd 4 starts @ Feb 14, ends @May 14. {Ditto}
Rd 5 starts after Rd 4 so players can be matched by ranking order.
{Rd 5 Recon-in-Force (no armor): a large map but low unit count. This is shaping up to be a "last man standing" scenario instead of a control the flag type. (work in progress)}

Well, it is not what we signed up for :). And while I also had lots of simultaneous games going back in the day, the effort required just to keep from doing stupid mistakes in just one game in this tournament makes me wonder where that genius from days yonder went.
But surely there must be other tourneys over at the different ladder sites that you can get in on if you feel under stimulated?

Thank you... It was meant as a rhetorical question and not meant to suggest that we do it in this tourney...
I hadn't played in years and had forgot how much I enjoyed the game once I had aquired a small stable of fast reliable opponents and had eliminated the slow and problem plagued, excuse ridden players... I learned to avoid situations where I unable to cull out the troublesome types... and so, the idea of a tournament with 10 players and five battles going on in the same 6-8 week round and with say 3-4 rounds and a final showdown is very appealing to me...

Ahh, I guess your quick follow up mentioning the lack of interest threw me off the rhetorical part, maybe it is a language thing :).

Fair enough, to be honest I feel that I might have been bitten by the same bug.
Maybe it has changed, but back in the day when I was a member at WeBoB both return rates and completions rates were good enough, with the rare SNAFU when RL kicked someone in the nuts. If you want several turns a day on average you might have it tougher though.

Back in the day, when I first started to play CM (final year and half of the chat room hosted by Battlefront) I only played TCP games. I couldn't put up with the slowness of PBEM play. Grudgingly started to play PBEM as could not finish certain TCP games with favorite opponents in the hours alloted for TCP.

As RL increasingly ate into my leisure time PBEM lept to the fore. Also as time progressed finding TCP opponents became tougher and tougher, and as old cmpts died the new ones with newer operating systems, video cards and firewalls just threw a monkey wrench to playing TCP - with VISTA delivering the death blow.

What does this rant have to do with the current discussion? Well its a rant - and I feel better. So its time to hit Post.

I played a couple of dozen TCP battles and I enjoyed them but I preferred larger scenarios which severely limited the practicality of TCP... Having multiple PBEM battles going meant that there was almost always a turn ready to play...

It's hard to trade witticisms when you're TCPing. I'm not talking about idiotic smack talk which any drunken 10 year old can do. I mean truly urbane exchanges. Find a good opponent that can get you in stitches with every smart aleck comment and you start to look forward more to the emails (and spend more time dreaming up the replies) more than you do with the game itself. Having that level of interaction with the 'radio' button never happened, and even if it did, you were probably missing something you should have been watching in the game itself anyway! Sometimes the "new" technology isn't always the best.

Personally, I had very little patience with "table talk"... I figured that real world commanders would not be in communication or exchange taunts...

Your all a bunch of wimps, back in the Masters Tourney we had three battles going on at a time for a round, usually small, medium, and large sized. :laugh:

P.S. MD, have you tried disabling everything(non-critical) running in the background? I'd be willing to bet it is a conflict with something else running.

No worries, I just switched to my laptop, and everything has been good to go - we are on turn 24 now and nearing the finish.
