Hello to all my ASL Comrades. Just want to give you my latest
update on our ASL Newsletter Dispatches from the Bunker.

We are winding down playtesting for what will be our
Special 20th Anniversary Issue #44. This one will include
another Tom Morin HASL Classic, this time the subject is
the fighting at Rees Germany, along the Rhine River in 1945.
The British 51st Highland Division was tasked with clearing the
town from a mix of veteran Falschirmjaegers and Volksturm.
We will have 5 scenarios, a campaign game and a HASL map
with instructions on how to either print it out at home or bring it to
a professional printer to print it out as a poster. The scenarios range
from a smaller tourney sized one up to a mini-monster covering the
whole map. In any event we are extremely proud of this project and
Tom's incredible knack for research and bringing that data to life in our
ASL game system. Look for #44 later in March.

As for current Issue #43, we have a 7 page part 2 of
Carl Nogueira's Tactical Tips article 'Look Out Below' on Air Support
in ASL plus an ASL Confessional from our own Ralph McDonald
on how ASL helped save his life. We also have extended coverage
of our local tournament scene and all our usual features.
See summaries below of the 4 scenarios we included in #43:

A Thorn in the Side - Nice tourney sized action by Ted Wilcox with
an all-out assault by Japanese Elite Squads from a Special Tank
Hunter Detachment attacking up hill vs Elite British troops with
the goal of knocking out the British tanks on the Hill-tops on Bd 5b.

One Last Victory - Joe Gochinski has another in the Operation
Nordwind series, with Elite SS from the 6th SS Nord Division
trying to take the village on Bd 67 vs a mixed company of USA
infantry. Tourney sized and plays quick in this all infantry
battle.

A Deadly Landscape - Great looking battle on a small area of the RB
map as December 42 draws to a close with a deadly stalemate
turning against the German. Andy Hershey has a unique SSR which'
allows the Snipers to add VPs to both sides as they cause casualties.
Very FUN Stalingrad action suitable for a tournament time frame.

March on Marche - The largest of the offerings this times sees the
German Blitz come to Marche in France. Mike Augustine has the
tip of Rommel's 7th Panzer Division securing the bridge over the Ourthe
River then trying to wrest Marche from a combined French force
with tanks and cavalry. German mobility is the key and the French
must counter their advances on Bds a & 3a.

For those unfamiliar with Dispatches, it is a 12 page Amateur
ASL Newsletter that comes to the greater ASL Community twice
a year, sometime in March and September courtesy of the New
England ASL Community, including the Bunker Crew and our yasl
Brothers in Southern New England. It typically contains 4 New Scenarios,
Analysis of each one, a Main Article on any aspect of the game system,
Tactical Tips, ASL News and Tournament Updates from our region.

Re-subscriptions for any current subscriber are $14.00 for a 4
Issue subscription. Anyone not a subscriber who wants in can
get a subscription for $15.00 and starts with current Issue #43.
Save a dollar in either case.

I'm also offering pdf Back Issues for $3.00 if complete or
$2.00 if missing content that was re-published by MMP.
(In that case an informational page was substituted for the
missing content telling you what MMP publication it appeared in
the affected issues are #01, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08. 10, 13, 16, 17,
18, 19 & 28).

If you want all 42 Back Issues it is $50.00.

If you want the Digital Works (a 4 issue subscription plus
all 42 Back Issues) it is $60.00

Vic-
Would a commercial printing place like Kinko's be able to handle this?

Hi Jim, as mentioned in the update, you'll have one version of the map that can be printed on a poster for a nice presentation.

I'll be sending the Issue in 2 parts, one for the issue and one for the map.

Thanks for asking and for your interest, Vic.

Tom will have the guys at VASL make sure a copy of the map will be available there.

Looks great in our VASL playtest! Vic.
Also an extension with the few pieces that are not standard.

Yes indeed Carl, how about a British 94* Art that can be broken down and hauled into a building, directed by a 10-2 Artillery Leader. :)

The plot thickens in Rees, Vic.

I must admit this has been one of the most challenging yet extremely enjoyable playtests I've been involved in.

Tom Morin strikes again, Vic.
Tom got what looks to be the final version of the map and due to the file size (just under 10MB) it will go out as a separate file.

Good news is the file has not only the complete map that you can have your local pro print on a poster sheet but also sections in case someone want to print it out on their home printer.

We'll also have a file for VASL enthusiasts. Looking to get it transmitted on the last Sunday in March, Vic.

whoo hoo! .. oh yea!!
Whoo hoo indeed! Playtesting the BIG scenario again tonight on VASL with Tom, what a killer that one is.

Reinforcements for both sides came in last turn with both sides getting around a company of infantry, the Brits headed by a 10-3, the Germans by a 10-2!

Walking with the Big-dogs and kicking butt, Vic.

I bought new ink cartridges for my home printer yesterday in anticipation! Vic, out of curiosity, how large (" x ") is the HASL map? If large enough, I may splurge and have the local printer do it.Thanks.

I believe it prints at 22" x22.5" (prints at 1-inch hexes).

Got mine today .. wow!! .. one question being the non-tech old guy that I am. Do I need to
put the map on a disc so I can have the map professionally printed? And if so, do I save
the pdf version of the map?
Thanks ya'll!

Hi Pierce, I would save all the files for the issue just in case but yeah, just save the pdf map to a flash drive (16 GB or larger) and bring it to your local printer, the hexes should print out around an inch. Tom says it should print a little wider than tall so a little bigger than 22" x 22.5" or so.

Thanks and Enjoy! Vic.
