Yes, the British BC's were more lightly armored than their German counterparts. They also used poor(dangerous) powder and ammo handling practices in their turrets. Additionally, they also had Sir David Beatty as commander of the BC's, who made many mistakes during the "Run to the South". By failing to keep the 5th battle fleet dreadnoughts with the BC fleet, he not only missed his chance to destroy the German BC fleet. He also lost two of his BC's, nearly lost his flagship, and almost fell into the trap that Hipper and Scheer were laying for him.I meant the GF. Weren't the RN BCs a bit more lightly armoured, but consequently a little quicker? Hence more likely to find themselves in a sticky situation when confronted by ships with equal firepower.
