Def Final Fire on units marked w/ CC cntr

I banzaied a Japanese MMC and leader into a hex w/ an Aussie HS and leader and marked the units with a CC counter. An Aussie unit outside the hex fired on the hex in DFF. Does the IFT result impact both Japanese and Ausie units? We played it that it only impacted the Japanese, well, because we couldn't find it in the rulebook and it sort of sounded vaguely familiar to my opponent and me.

You played it correctly. Only if locked in melee do the results affect both sides. He could even voluntarily break and rout away while marked CC if he thought it was advantageous. -- jim
