E3.733 (v2 with J4 errata) states: "In Deep Snow, Infantry/Cavalry movement penalties (3.723) still apply and, in addition, such units must pay an extra 1/2 MF per hexside [EXC: if entering any woods/building/rubble, or crossing a plowed road hexside]."

So if you are using bypass movement around a woods hex (staying on the same level) and bypass 2 hexsides it would cost at total of 2 MF's (1 for open ground, plus 1/2 x 2 (2 hexsides) = 2 MF's). If you only bypassed 1 hexside then it would be 1 1/2 MF's.

Is this correct?

Bypass normally costs 1MF regardless of the number of hexsides traversed (1 or 2). Deep Snow simply increases the cost to 1 1/2 MF.

The 'hexside' cost the rule refers to is the normal entry cost for, ie: open ground. In Deep Snow you would count 1 1/2, 3, 4 1/2, 6 instead of 1, 2, 3, 4.

Going uphill would cost 3MF (2 + 1/2 for ground snow elevation change + 1/2 for deep snow) per level. Going downhill would cost 2MF (1 + 1/2 for ground snow elevation change cost + 1/2 for deep snow).

Of course, being on skis negates these additional costs and can really boost MFs if you go down hill (see; Wiley Coyote and his Acme Rocket Skis).
