I'm lost.

Can you not both just have in your mind what side you want and declare them simultaneously on VASL or even over a phone call? If you can't trust your opponent on this in a game where the opportunities to cheat are there in numbers, then it's a sorry state of affairs.

For a while my Arizona friend (AZslim) and I played on VASL but using our own dice towers, simply declaring our rolls as we made them. He never did believe my 18 roll run of snake-eyes but it was totally legit...

Do a quick zoom/teams/skype call to each other , write on a piece of paper prior to call then reveal at the same time if you don’t trust each other as that is what it sounds like?

This morning I finished up a HiF date and we’re moving on to Refit phase. My long- term opponent asks if I know what attack chit I want to use for the next date…”yes, day assault”. He replied “I’m doing dawn assault”. All settled, no drama or cloak and dagger crap. It is a GAME.

The Honor system. It's been a while, but I've used the notes in VASL. But, unless playing for blood, I'll trust my opponent is an honest Joe.

No need fire up Bletchley Park with a large staff of mathematicians, scientist, and pencil skirt ladies, to figure out my Attack/Idle chit!

I've got scans of P. Keith Larson's Experimental PBM Rules (playtest version 0.32) from 1991. I donated my hardcopy to Mark Pitcavage for possible inclusion in the ASL Museum on his Desperation Morale site. VASL is quite an improvement but the ethics required are the same.

If playing VASL, the "delayed notes" feature works pretty well. I don't know if they are ciphered in the saved files, but I don't care. They're a good enough deterrent to accidentally knowing your opponent's pick before you make yours.

If this is face to face... why not tell your choice to a trusted third party, and let them sort it out? (you might have some explaining to do to a curious third party if you don't have a third ASL player at hand)
