Von der Tann
Schlachtkreuzer
Tonight we had our first true European MP game, meaning that each team had more than one player. We did the custom scenario Rumble near the Ems, which ran well after some teething troubles which required me to rename it. Admiral Hipper and myself took over the German fleet, while tanyrhiew and bolitho commanded the Royal Navy.
The scenario opens shortly before sunrise with the German navy split into three parts, SGI with its escorts is about to run into the back of the British BCF while the British BL with eight dreadnoughts follows behind. The second major German group consists of four Kaiser class BB which come to the rescue after some time, and the third group are four pre-dreadnoughts that are some way off. Admiral Hipper took over SGI, I had the rest.
From my point of view, there was not much to do in the first twenty minutes or so. I set the dreadnoughts on an intercept course and tried to do a torpedo run against the enemy BC, but all the TB involved in it were eventually sunk. My BB tried to sink a group of RN CL that stood between it and the enemy BC, as I thought this might make torpedo runs easier, but despite the rising sun shining in the British eyes, the BCF scored many hits on them and forced me to withdraw. The dreadnoughts slowed down and some turrets were knocked out, but they never went out of action and were able to repel enemy torpedo runs with the help of their escorts.
Meanwhile, our BC fought their own battle with the enemy. As I had my own troubles, I didn't pay it much attention, but three of the four CL it had eventually went down. The only substantial British loss was HMS Indefatigable which succumbed to a critical hit while the BCF was taking crossfire from our BC and BB. Despite the presence of enemy BB, they didn't really get much action.
BTW: It seems that the idea with the separate MP games is paying off, no connection problems worth mentioning.
A nice game, gentlemen, and I do hope that we will get a few more players in weeksw to come!
