Over in the ASL tournament's discussion list is the draw for the CyberASL Open VI. After looking at the draw, anyone have comments on who is seeded too high? :hail: too low? :(

Who do you think will win based on the draw?

Any other comments?

I love these emoticons. :strokin:

Jason Wert and I have played on and off for a number of years. Probably 15-18 games via VASL Pbem (I live in Kansas, he in Pennsylvania). Our first game ever was back before VASL. We played an e-mail tourney on the mailing list using good ol' email (Acts of Defiance). Recently we have started a couple of games, but life intervenes.......now we have to finish what we start! :surprise: :D

We are both sorry-assed ASL players, so I predict that neither of us will win the tourney.

How do you play? by e-mail? Ie I move my squad 1 hex send an e-mail, then the other guy sends his e-mail back saying I shoot?

Or is this VASL?

It's by VASL, Scott. Either "live" VASL on the VASL server, or by the usual VASL PBEM routine exchanging log files.

Well, the cyber-tourney is about 99% VASL. Before VASL, we played by e-mail, with the boards set up in both locations, counters out, real dice, and a ton of trust.

Took a very looooooooooong time. :argh:

Scot... there's an excellent starter article on PBEM using VASL in a back issue of "Hit the Beach". I can't recall exactly which one, but if you hunt around (or someone can recall the issue number) it's a good place to get going.

www.socalasl.com of course is the place to go for Hit the Beach.

Hello!

I am in a "play in" game.

Should the "play in" games be short so that we can get the tourney rolling?

It would seem that leaves several Round 1 games awaiting us, therefore, it would seem prudent for us to get done ASAP.

Jeeze talk about pressure :D

Peace

Roger

Hi,

Just heard from John.

The "play in" games get 2 months to finish.

Peace

Hey SgtTono,

I'd prefer you link to the actual article instead of attaching a chopped-up version to your post. Your version has no diagram and no attribution.

Scott, here is the original article: http://208.252.203.252/pdfs/V6N3.PDF

Let us know if you have any questions. VASL pbem is fun! I'm currently teaching Morten from Denmark how to push around tanks.
I've also been playing Jeff from Montana in PB CG for 2.5 years. :D

SgtTono,

Is there any way to remove that attachment from your post? I don't mind that you modified the article for personal use, but I don't want it disseminated in an altered condition.

OTOH, this means that there are lots of games where people now have the chance to play that monster scenario :D (*If* they get started immediately...)

I am going to remove the attachment I posted BUT I DID NOT MODIFY THE ARTICLE so maybe watch your ASSumptions.

What I had posted was what someone gave me, I had no idea who's it was or that it was not complete. All I knew was that is was great and it got me into the great world of PBEM ASL.

Keith
Keith,

Thanks for removing the article, no worries on this end. Whoever modified it and took the author's name off (me!) and then gave it to people is the one who is at fault.

I'm glad that the article helped you get into pbem.

So the winner of this match will go all the way?
I guess we have the usual favorites; Tom Weniger, Carl Nogueira, Tom Repetti etc.
