CX and Overstacking (A5.11)?

I'm having a hard time understanding the example given after Section A5.11, regarding movement into an overstacked hex. The example says (in part): "If another squad advances into the same [overstacked] Location, it will have to become CX because the MF cost of the Location is now four MF...".

Why would the squad become CX just because it expended four MF?

The EXample (third sentence) refers to the latter squad advancing into the Location (not moving). During the APh, you must become CX if you expend 4 or greater MFs to enter a Location:

A4.72 vs DIFFICULT TERRAIN: An advance into any hex whose MF cost (excluding SMOKE) is ≥ four MF or all of a unit's available non-Double Time MF allotment (whichever is less) may not be made if the unit is already CX [EXC: Climbing, B11.432; Deep Stream Entry, B20.43]; otherwise it may advance but becomes CX in the process. In no case may a unit advance if it retains no MF after deducting for portage costs.​
The EXample, IMO, could have been clearer (or at least kinder). The switching from MPh to APh without stating directly is just asking for confusion!

Just remember the little saying "4 or ALL"
If your "advancing" into a hex that either costs you 4mf OR all your available mf which ever is the LEAST
If you are unmarked get a CX counter
If your unit(s) already CX You can't go to THAT hex (find another or don't advance)

Hope this helps a little

Doh! Thanks for pointing that out; after reading that example several times I'd failed to pick that up.
